What do you like best about the product?

I like using Commvault Cloud for downloading reports or workflows. I appreciate the air gap feature, especially since it’s not available in my local datacenter. With more than 20 years of experience working with Commvault, I find it easy to use.

What do you dislike about the product?

I find the reports and forecasts lacking in Commvault Cloud. Also, the air gap feature is not available in my local datacenter, which limits its usefulness for me.

What do you like best about the product?

Transitioning to Plans really helped re-evaluating all workloads and their needs so in the end we now have a structured and clear overview of our backups and an easy onboarding processs for new clients without the need to dig into configuration details.
The CommandCenter also really helped our users having a clearer and more focused overview of their backups and important settings without getting distracted by unimportant menus they don't need.
I am really looking forward on improvements also for administrators.

What do you dislike about the product?

I feel like upgraded Commcells existing for various major versions are not considered that strongly in the documentation and overall development.
New deployments and configurations have different defaults than existing Commcells and we are always faced with new issues and optimization tasks which require intensive manual work (e.g. writing suitable API scripts) to adjust certain behaviour or performance characteristics.
There should be a comprehensive guide or report to optimize Commcell environments regardless of age and previous history.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Commvault supports all kind of workloads and we never encountered any major issues with configuration, backup or restore of any of them.
In general Commvault just works and does not really need micomanagement like other backup solutions.
The reliability and flexibility really helps focusing on overall improvements of our environment without getting distracted by too many everyday task.

What do you like best about the product?

What I like most about Commvault Cloud is the ability to monitor my CommServe’s status and backups in one place.

What do you dislike about the product?

So far, the only feature I feel is missing (and I dislike) is the ability to perform a bare-metal restore on Proxmox nodes.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

I like being able to monitor my environment even when I’m in another country.

What do you like best about the product?

The combination of reliability and centralized management provides the most value for our organization. Having a single interface to manage all workloads prevents configuration errors and ensures that our data protection policies are consistent across the entire infrastructure. This is a significant improvement compared to the older console which, even while functional, was somewhat burdensome to use at times.

Features like data immutability and built-in anomaly detection give us full confidence that our data is safe from ransomware and ready for recovery.

Furthermore, we highly appreciate the responsive technical support, which provides quick resolutions when needed, and the transparent pricing model that delivers excellent return on investment for an enterprise-grade platform.

What do you dislike about the product?

While the platform is evolving quickly, feature parity between the new cloud interface and the traditional console still isn’t fully there in some areas. Certain advanced configurations continue to require switching back to the old console, which breaks up the workflow and fragments the overall user experience.

We’d also like deeper visibility into individual backed-up assets and workloads directly from the main dashboard. In our experience, granular tracking of single entities can feel less intuitive than it used to, and it takes extra effort to track down to the details we need.

Finally, the built-in reporting could be stronger. We often need more detailed, ready-to-use compliance and infrastructure status reports without having to manually customize views just to get a clear, accurate picture of our environment.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

We were struggling to manage our hybrid infrastructure across multiple, separate tools. Commvault Cloud addressed this by centralizing our entire backup strategy in one place, which has reduced configuration errors and made day-to-day operations much simpler.

Protecting backup data from cyber threats was another major concern for us. With features like data immutability and built-in anomaly detection, the platform helps keep our backups safe from encryption and lowers our potential recovery time and financial risk. On top of that, tracking data compliance across diverse workloads used to take a lot of time. Now, the platform supports strict SLA consistency and automated data protection policies, making audit preparation and internal reporting far more straightforward.

What do you like best about the product?

A single platform for on-prem, cloud, and SaaS backups. It has reduced the amount of backup infrastructure management I need to handle.

What do you dislike about the product?

Commvault is extremely powerful, but that power comes with a lot of complexity. New administrators often need significant training before they feel comfortable with it.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Commvault offers a unified platform that can help organizations reduce risk, strengthen resilience, and recover more quickly from outages or cyberattacks.

Commvault Cloud's main core use case is backup and recovery for protecting on-premises workloads, databases, the file system, NAS, and on-premises infrastructure. Another primary use case is immutable backups to protect from ransomware attacks, with air-gapped or isolated copies also providing ransomware protection.

I use Commvault Cloud for VMware to protect virtual workloads, virtual machines, and databases, including mission-critical databases such as SQL Server.

I use it for my backup environment to protect workloads.

Commvault Cloud's best feature in terms of protection is that it provides data protection and accomplishes its job effectively. It offers a unified approach to backup across all environments, including on-premises, public cloud, and SaaS applications such as M365 and Salesforce. I also use it for virtual machines and databases.

The unified protection approach helps my team manage different environments effectively. Before Commvault Cloud, I used a separate VM backup tool to protect the VMware environment. For database backup, I had to use the native tool or backup scripts. For the cloud part, I had to use the native AWS or Azure cloud tools. After moving to Commvault Cloud, a single policy or a set of backup policies is applied across virtual machines, databases, workloads, and cloud workloads. I can protect my environments, which reduces manual configuration errors. Regarding visibility, it provides one dashboard to manage and centralize monitoring of all workloads. It is very easy to track backup success or failure. I can see the SLA compliance and storage usage without needing to jump between tools to check or have visibility of it. Regarding the recovery experience, the recovery time has been reduced drastically by using Commvault Cloud. It has simplified cloud management and provides easier manageability to manage retention policies, encryption policies, and compliance rules. This helps reduce operational workloads.

Commvault Cloud has impacted me very positively. It simplifies and unifies data protection across hybrid workloads. Instead of managing multiple backup tools for virtual machines, databases, and SaaS applications, I now have a single platform with consistent policies and centralized visibility. This has really reduced my operational complexity and improved backup reliability. Regarding the cyber resiliency posture, the immutable backups and ransomware recovery workflow give me greater confidence in recovering quicker from potential risks. Commvault Cloud has positively impacted me in several key areas: unified backup management across environments, reduced operational overhead, improved ransomware resiliency, faster recovery times, better visibility for compliance, and easier management of hybrid or cloud workloads.

Commvault Cloud is a very powerful tool, but it can be improved in various ways. Commvault Cloud can be improved by simplifying its interface, reducing configuration complexity, and making more advanced features such as ransomware recovery easier to use. It can be better in the diagnostic part, and the cloud integration part can be smoother.

I have been working in my current field for the last eight to nine years.

I have experienced measurable outcomes and organizational improvements in several areas. In terms of faster recovery time, before Commvault Cloud, full system recovery used to take hours to perform a complete system restore. After Commvault Cloud, this has been reduced to minutes or an hour using automated recovery workflows. The recovery time has improved by sixty to eighty percent, which totally depends on the type of workload, but especially for virtual machines and databases, the recovery timing has been improved significantly.

In terms of time saved in backup operations, there is a reduction in manual backup scripting and monitoring. The centralized backup policy automation has reduced my administrative efforts by twenty to forty percent. The onboarding of new workloads is now faster.

Regarding storage and infrastructure efficiency, I have optimized backup retention and deduplication. There is a thirty to forty percent reduction in data infrastructure overhead, which varies from environment to environment.

Downtime has been reduced because Commvault Cloud provides faster restores during business disruption. Unplanned downtime impact has been reduced due to faster and more reliable recovery workflows.

Regarding cost optimization, I would not characterize it as a direct saving, but it can be called an indirect saving because instead of purchasing multiple backup tools, I can now use one tool to manage or back up all environments. The licensing has been reduced, operational efficiency and operational overhead have been reduced, and there is lower dependency on manual intervention.

Commvault Cloud is quite a mature product that I would advise others considering it to explore.

My advice to others is to start by clearly mapping data protection requirements across all environments, including on-premises and cloud, because the platform is most valuable when used as a unified strategy rather than a point solution. It is also important to invest time upfront in designing policies and planning, especially around retention, ransomware protection, and protecting critical systems such as Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases. This generally helps in avoiding complexity. I would also recommend getting training for Commvault Cloud, as it can help you learn about each feature.

Commvault Cloud is quite interactive, but I think there are some areas which can be improved for future versions, such as clarifying the early scopes and reducing the repetition of several questions, as some questions were repeated multiple times. I would appreciate more scenario-based questions. I would also recommend separating technical evaluation questions from business evaluation questions.

What do you like best about the product?

The best part about Commvault Cloud is the centralized management it offers across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. It streamlines backups for a range of workloads, including VMs and SaaS applications, so data stays consistently protected without having to rely on multiple separate tools.

What do you dislike about the product?

The initial setup and configuration can feel fairly complex compared to some competitors. There’s also a steep learning curve to fully understand the interface and make the most of all the available features, which may be overwhelming for teams looking for a more “plug-and-play” solution.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Commvault Cloud addresses the challenge of managing fragmented data across our on-premises environment and multiple cloud platforms. It gives us a single pane of glass for backup operations, which means we spend far less time switching between different consoles. Overall, it also streamlines our disaster recovery strategy and makes the entire process easier to manage.

A painless solution that runs very smoothly and includes all the required features.

What do you dislike about the product?

Mac support is challenging, but everything else seems okay at the moment.
