Initial setup has required learning but file sanitization now protects all internal exchanges
What is our primary use case?
Our main use case for GateScanner by Sasa Software is as a file gateway for inspecting and sanitizing files that are coming into the organization and moving through the organization. Our main objective is to protect the data and the transfers and the documents that are shared within the organization or outside the organization and to scan the external file exchange to ensure that there are no malwares and zero-day threats to the organization. This is our major use case for using it.
How has it helped my organization?
GateScanner by Sasa Software has positively impacted our organization by reducing the need for manual file inspection and avoiding custom security controls on every file transfer, saving us around 78% of the manual time we were spending on file inspection and custom security controls. Based on our internal experience, the operational improvement is roughly 38% to 42%, around 20 hours of security efforts saved per week, which works out to 400 to 500 hours annually. We have achieved great ROI and have also seen a reduction in manual finding of suspicious and externally received files at least 42% to 48%.
The time savings have changed our workflows and given the team more time to work on other priority tasks, with these tasks handled by the software.
What is most valuable?
The best features GateScanner by Sasa Software offers include multiple options, but Deep CDR is one of my favorites as it is the most used feature in the organization and it sanitizes files before they reach the users. The second feature I value is the secure file transfer, which works for both internal and external exchanges. The third feature is policy-based scanning, which lets us apply different policies on different types of users, files, and transfers. This helps us set rules and implement policies on different kinds of users.
Policy-based scanning is important for our organization as it helps us apply a filter, enabling us to apply the type of user, file, or transfer, ensuring that if we are highlighting something or making it clear that this element is more important to scan, then it highlights it and ensures that it is scanned properly. This is why it is useful.
What needs improvement?
GateScanner by Sasa Software is a great solution, but if I had to suggest an improvement, the initial configuration could be easier for teams that are new to CDRs. The company could also provide better transparent public pricing around different deployment sizes instead of having to work through a marketplace for a complete cost picture.
The initial configuration was challenging mainly due to the learning curve for new teams coming to CDR.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using GateScanner by Sasa Software for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
GateScanner by Sasa Software is a very stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
GateScanner by Sasa Software is a scalable product and we can easily scale up and down as it comes with a comfortable licensing model.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support is excellent.
I would rate the customer support a 10 out of 10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not use a different solution previously.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment of GateScanner by Sasa Software in our environment was very smooth, though it was not a plug-and-play installation. The main effort involved network routing, defining security policies, configuring the required transfer protocols, and testing how different file types behave after sanitizing.
My experience with the configuration process was good, but I believe it can be improved.
What about the implementation team?
My experience with the procurement process was easy and straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The metering and billing experience is excellent. I did not face any challenges, as we are using a pay-as-you-go model, which ensures we are paying only for what we are using, not more than that.
The pricing, setup costs, and licensing are excellent as it operates on a usage-based model through the AWS Marketplace, providing usage-based pricing with the option of a contract covering anticipated usage.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing GateScanner by Sasa Software, we evaluated options including Votiro, OPSWAT MetaDefender, and Glasswall.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise anyone looking into using GateScanner by Sasa Software to proceed if they are looking for a professional and effective scanner that extends beyond the conventional malware detection approach, as it offers CDR-based file sanitization. I give this review a rating of 5 out of 5.
