IMO I find Packer to work better in Linux

  • April 23, 2024

What do you like best about the product?
I can integrate packer with built in powershell and I can use it from Powershell ISE. I mostly chose to use Packer in Linux but if I need to integrate powershell or bring files in from a Windows Authenticated Share or SQL with Windows auth then it's easier to do this with Packer inside Windows.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing to dislike but I find that the overhead of running windows and licensing for packer it's a bit much when you can run it in a container and spin down.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping Windows Administrators with not too much exposure to Linux adopt packer and other IaC tools.

What do you like best about the product?
The easiness of installing the backend. and compatibility of it with the various cloud service providers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not anything to dislike about this product. But if we add more examples in the Documentation, it will provide ease for the new user.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It will avoid any manual changes done to servers. All the configurations will be declared in the packer code. It will avoid any future discrepancies to maintain server configurations.
