HUK-COBURG Uses AWS to Monitor, Process, and Calculate Driver Behavior

HUK-COBURG began building on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2018 to create a highly scalable and dynamic solution that can process customer trip information from telematics data. A small sensor in a customer’s car monitors driving and sends data to the HUK-COBURG app, built on AWS. HUK-COBURG then processes and calculates the data and provides it to drivers to further encourage good driving behavior.

In 2022, HUK-COBURG fully migrated the solution to AWS using serverless solutions such as Amazon API Gateway and AWS Lambda. The company needed a cost efficient, secure, and highly scalable solution that could respond to volatile telematics traffic patterns, such as workday peaks and nearly zero traffic at night. Using AWS, HUK-COBURG could easily scale its solution up or down depending on need, which helped optimize costs, and the developer teams could speed innovation and implementation of new features to the telematics platform.

We chose AWS due to its strong position in the market and its constant release of new, innovative services. Moving to the cloud helped us see a significant decrease in costs, in comparison to our former on-premises solution, and helped us mitigate architectural issues very fast and without downtimes.”
