AWS re:Invent 2020 – Michelle McKenna of the NFL on Using AWS to Produce the 2020 NFL Draft

2021

The National Football League (NFL), the most popular sports league in the US, used Amazon Web Services (AWS) to take the 2020 NFL Draft virtual. CIO Michelle McKenna discusses how, during the COVID-19 pandemic, AWS helped the league produce the NFL Draft remotely—with coaches, general managers, and 85 draft picks participating via mobile phones from their homes across the country. Using Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Shield, multiple Availability Zones, and support from AWS engineers, the NFL produced a live broadcast of the draft on ESPN that drew record numbers of viewers and delivered a seamless viewing experience for fans.
