AWS Elemental MediaLive now supports converting Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) bitmap and SCTE-27 image-based subtitles to WebVTT captions.
Typically, web and mobile video players don't handle image-based subtitles, so you could not easily provide your viewers with captions from image-based sources. Now with MediaLive leveraging optical character recognition (OCR) functionality, you can convert these image-based subtitles to WebVTT format. OCR subtitle conversion in MediaLive is available at no additional charge. AWS Elemental Live also supports the same functionality in the 2.22.0 GA software release.
AWS Elemental MediaLive is a broadcast-grade live video processing service. It lets you create high-quality live video streams for delivery to broadcast televisions and internet-connected multiscreen devices, like connected TVs, tablets, smartphones, and set-top boxes. The MediaLive service functions independently or as part of AWS Elemental Media Services, a family of services that form the foundation of cloud-based workflows and offer you the capabilities you need to transport, create, package, monetize, and deliver video.
