Starting today you can use the new AWS Elemental MediaPackage filter configuration option to apply a combination of manifest filtering, start over, and time delay parameters to your HLS manifests. This option has the same effect on the manifest content as using query strings in playback URLs.

By using the filter configuration option and vending the resulting URLs without query strings, you can simplify your edge tokenization workflows and prevent viewers from tampering with playback URLs. You can also control the lifecycle of your content by dynamically transforming a simple live manifest into a live start over manifest, or even into a VOD manifest after the end of a program, without updating playback URLs in your CMS. In addition, you can also delay the delivery of live content for different timezones while sharing the same set of media segments to preserve CDN caching efficiency and reduce origination costs.

Filter configuration support is available at no additional cost. For information on MediaPackage charges visit the pricing page. To learn more about getting started with filter configuration, visit the AWS Elemental MediaPackage documentation page.

MediaPackage functions independently or as part of AWS Elemental Media Services, a family of services that form the foundation of cloud-based video workflows and offer the capabilities you need to transport, create, package, monetize, and deliver video.
