Overview
BeeGFS is a parallel file system - by adding more servers, the capacity and performance of them is aggregated in a single namespace. That way the filesystem performance and capacity can be scaled to the level which is required for the specific application. BeeGFS is targeted at everyone, who has a need for large and/or fast storage. Traditional fields are HighPerformance- and HighThroughputComputing as well as for storage of (large and growing) research data. The concept of scalability additionally allows users with a fast (but perhaps irregular) growth to adapt easily to the situation they are facing over time. A very important differentiator for BeeGFS is the ease-of-use. BeeGFS is fully transparant and supports most POSIX commands. BeeGFS daemons run in any combination, so that no separate storage servers are required. BeeGFS stores data on persistant EBS volumes in a RAID0 or RAID5 to maximize throughput. You can shutdown and reboot a BeeGFS cluster without losing your data. Further, BeeGFS automatically recovers from failures (e.g. instances, EBS, hardware failures).

BeeGFS Cluster Setup - USE THIS, NOT 'Single AMI'
Comprehensive deployment of a high available Ubuntu based BeeGFS cluster. The minimal (default) setup includes a single management instance with four EBS volumes in a Raid0 configuration. Additional storage instances with four EBS volumes each can be attached as well as processing instances without EBS volumes.
No dedicated storage instances required. All instances are available for application workloads. The BeeGFS cluster setup can be shut down and restarted without loosing data. It is possible to change instance types, scale up the cluster or decrease the number of processing instances.
IMPORTANT: If you selected the 'Single AMI' delivery method terminate your instance and select the "BeeGFS Cluster Setup AMI" delivery method. This AMI must be used due to AWS policy issues.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
Version release notes
BeeGFS on AWS v3.0 now offers the ability to start a variable number of metadata servers. It is possible to start them separately to increase metadata performance. Specialized metadata nodes will mount EBS io1 volumes for maximum metdata performance.

Usage instructions
To connect to the operating system, use SSH and the username specified on the CloudFormation parameter section. Parallel mount point can be specified this way as well (default: /data_parallel )
