SYMMIC is a template-based thermal simulator for monolithic integrated circuits. This machine image provides access to the xSYMMIC command line utility for a small hourly fee. Existing SYMMIC users can easily upload and run thermal analysis problems in the cloud from the SYMMIC desktop using the application's Remote Run dialog.

You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance size, so you pick the machine that fits your simulation. Amazon groups these instances as general purpose, memory-optimized, and compute-optimized. Larger instances offer more CPUs and RAM, which can speed up simulations but raise your hourly cost. Billing accrues for any instance that is running or stopped but not terminated. You can also launch multiple instances as a cluster, with each instance billed at its per-hour rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing map to for each dimension?
Each dimension maps to one specific Amazon EC2 instance size running for one hour. You are billed by the wall-clock hour the machine runs. Amazon lists CPU counts as twice the physical cores. More CPUs and RAM raise the hourly rate but can shorten simulation time.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped but not terminated?
Yes. You accrue charges for any instance that is running, or stopped but not yet terminated. Charges stop only when you terminate the instance. If you launch a cluster, you keep paying while it exists, so delete the stack once your simulation results are downloaded.
How does running a cluster of instances affect my bill?
A cluster runs one master node plus up to 250 compute nodes, all of the same instance type. Each instance bills at its own per-hour rate, so total cost adds up across every node. Your AWS account limits how many instances of each type you can run at once.
