You pay by the hour based on the ARM-based EC2 instance size you run IPFire on. All 17 dimensions bill the same software the same way; only the underlying instance capacity changes. The t4g family covers general-purpose sizes from nano up through 2xlarge. The c6g and c6gn families cover compute-focused sizes from medium up through 4xlarge, with c6gn adding network-optimized options. Larger instances add CPU, memory, and network throughput, so hourly cost rises with the size you pick. You run all IPFire features at no extra software charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What resources do I get with each hourly instance dimension?
Each dimension maps to one running ARM-based EC2 instance of the named size. Larger sizes add CPU cores, memory, and network throughput. The t4g family gives general-purpose capacity. The c6g family is compute-focused. The c6gn family adds network optimization. You pick the size that fits your traffic and firewall load.
Am I charged when the IPFire instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing IPFire software charges. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate from the software charge you see here.
Does running IPFire cost more if I enable VPN, intrusion prevention, or other features?
No. You run all IPFire features at no extra software charge. VPNs, the intrusion prevention system, the firewall engine, and web-based configuration are included. Your hourly cost is driven only by the instance size you choose, not by which features you turn on.
