Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000V - Transit VPC/Autoscaling

Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000V - Transit VPC/Autoscaling

By: Cisco Systems Inc Latest Version: 1

Product Overview

The All CSR Transit Network VPC solution of the Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR1000V) delivers the maximum performance for virtual enterprise-class networking services in the AWS cloud. The All CSR transit VPC serves as a global network transit center for connecting multiple, geographically dispersed VPCs and remote networks. CSR1000v is deployed in the Transit VPC and the Spoke VPCs enabling greater control and functionality (QoS, Segmentation, encryption between the Transit VPC and Spoke VPCs, direct Spoke to Spoke communication, etc.). The All CSR Transit VPC solution of the Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR1000V) comes with BYOL pricing model.

All CSR Transit VPC also supports Auto-Scale. Use AWS CloudWatch to monitor CSR throughput or CPU utilization in real time. When the metric being monitored crosses the configured threshold, AWS Lambda functions are called to spin-up and configure additional CSRs in the Transit VPC and load balance the traffic. When the additional CSRs are no longer needed the solution will automatically scale back in as well.

To activate BYOL AMI, please obtain a license from Cisco with the following: (1) Tech Package: SEC or AX (2) Performance Level: 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps or 5Gbps and (3) Time period: 1-year, 3-year, or perpetual. The recommended instance types per throughput are: 500Mbps on c4.large, 1Gbps on c4.xlarge, 2.5Gbps on c4.2xlarge, 4.5Gbps on c4.4xlarge, and 5Gbps on c4.8xlarge. For AWS GovCloud region, please contact ask-csr-aws-pm@cisco.com to obtain instructions on how to find CSR1000V.

When a CSR is spun up using auto-scale there is a 30-day grace period to acquire a license for the newly deployed CSR. For a 60-day eval license, please follow the instructions at this link: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/csr1000/software/configuration/b_CSR1000v_Configuration_Guide/b_CSR1000v_Configuration_Guide_chapter_01000.html#d22566e174a1635.
