Both tiers bundle two things: compute usage measured in QCUH (Qubole Compute Unit Hours) and a set number of named users per month. Tier 1 (Hosts) covers up to 20,000 QCUH and 10 users per month. Tier 2 (Hosts) covers up to 50,000 QCUH and 25 users per month. The tiers scale together, raising both the compute ceiling and the user count. You pick the tier that matches your expected monthly compute volume and team size.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
QCUH stands for Qubole Compute Unit Hour. One QCU running for one hour equals one QCUH. Your tier sets a monthly ceiling on these hours. The platform shuts down idle clusters automatically, so you only accrue QCUH for compute that is actively running.
Both metrics combine within one tier. Each tier bundles a monthly QCUH ceiling with a set user count. Compute-heavy analytics and machine learning workloads push you toward the QCUH limit. Large teams push you toward the user limit. Whichever ceiling you reach first determines the tier you need.
Tier 1 covers up to 20,000 QCUH and 10 users per month. If your compute volume or headcount rises past those ceilings, you move to Tier 2, which covers up to 50,000 QCUH and 25 users. Both the compute ceiling and user count increase together at the higher tier.
