    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for this Windows Server 2012 R2 Chinese image, billed only while your instance runs. Pricing has no upfront commitment and scales with the AWS EC2 instance type you select. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so your hourly rate follows the size and family you choose. General-purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and specialized machine families are all available. Smaller instances like t3.nano cost less per hour; large machines like the multi-terabyte u-series cost more. You control spend by matching the instance to your workload.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

Each hourly unit maps to one running EC2 instance of the type you choose, sized by CPU, memory, and family. The image runs Windows Server 2012 R2 with Chinese as the default display language. You can switch it to English at first boot using user data.
The hourly software charge accrues only while your instance runs. Stopping the instance halts the software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage or reserved resources while the instance sits stopped, but the software meter counts running time only.
There is no upfront commitment. You pay per hour as the instance runs. Each dimension is one instance type, so switching families or sizes changes your hourly rate. You can stop one instance and launch another type when your workload shifts.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Version release notes

The product has officially switched from Windows Server 2012 to Windows 10 LTSC 2021. Existing Windows Server 2012 R2 instances remain usable for current customers.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

Note: For all Avora Windows AMI products, the default login username is Administrator.

    Remote Desktop Connection

    What to expect

    • First boot time: the instance may take 5-10 minutes to finish initialization before RDP is available.
    • How to connect: use Windows Remote Desktop (mstsc) or another RDP client, open the .rdp file from the EC2 console, and sign in with the Administrator account and the decrypted password.
    • Security: ensure the instance security group allows RDP (TCP 3389) or use a secure bastion/jump host. Use the EC2 console to decrypt the initial Administrator password.

    Official guide: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/zh_cn/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/connect-rdp.html

Session Manager via AWS Systems Manager

    When to use

    • Use Session Manager when you prefer not to open RDP to the internet or when you need command-line/PowerShell access from the AWS console or CLI.

    Requirements and notes

    • The instance must have an IAM role with the required SSM permissions.
    • Start a session from the Systems Manager Session Manager console or from the EC2 console's Connect option.

    Official guide: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/zh_cn/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/connect-with-systems-manager-session-manager.html

Start the Instance in English Using User Data

    Purpose and impact

    • To change the OS language to English (en-US) at first boot, provide a PowerShell script as user data when launching the instance. This change triggers an additional system restart and increases initialization time.

    **PowerShell user data example: **

    • <powershell>
    • $Language = "en-US"
    • Set-WinSystemLocale -SystemLocale $Language
    • Set-WinUserLanguageList -LanguageList $Language -Force
    • Set-WinUILanguageOverride -Language $Language
    • Set-Culture -CultureInfo $Language
    • Set-WinHomeLocation -GeoId 244
    • Restart-Computer
    • </powershell>

    How to supply user data

    • Paste the script into the User data field when launching the instance in the EC2 console. Because the script restarts the machine, expect a longer first-boot time.
