Overview
The Carrier Route Boundaries product provides spatial demarcations and centroids of USPS Mail Carrier Routes & ZIP Codes. Using multiple data sources, Precisely creates over 250,000 boundaries nationwide that follow roads, both for accuracy and visual appeal including the area served by a particular USPS mail carrier. Our proprietary process captures residential and business routes with the resulting product being an accurate spatial resource.
Other advantages include: Use of multiple data feeds, including USPS data, to ensure completeness CASS certifiable data imported each month; Rigorous linkage of ZIP+4 data to every US street segment; Segment scores based on match rates; Areas are incorporated cleanly, without the fake accuracy of jagged fence posting used by other companies.
There are 5 primary tables in the product:
Carrier Route Boundaries: provides latitude/longitude coordinates for the vertices of carrier route polygons. Point type carrier routes are not included in this version.
Carrier Route Centroids: includes all carrier routes, one record per, including point type routes such as PO Boxes and others for which an accurate boundary cannot be defined. If possible, PO Box carrier routes are located at a post offices physical location; otherwise, these routes appear at the ZIP centroid. If a point carrier route is not a PO Box, we attempt to place it at the centroid of the street segment where we have the best match; otherwise, we place it at the ZIP centroid.
ZIP Code Boundaries, ZIP Code Centroids, ZIP Code Alternate Names: 5digit ZIP Code boundaries and centroids are included with the Carrier Route Boundaries product in a separate set of files. The ZIP Codes have the same currency as, and their boundaries align with, their respective carrier routes. The ZIP Code alternate names provide all names associated with a particular ZIP Code in a separate table for faster geocoding and better hit rates in the main ZIP Code boundary file.
Product is available in a number of GIS and database loadable formats.
