Zettazip is a queryable archive for market data: a lossless compression codec and query engine that reads the structure of market data to produce far smaller archives, then answers queries directly on the compressed form.
Zettazip: Purpose-Built Compression and Query Engine for Market Data Archives
Zettazip is a specialized compression and query engine that makes market-data archives faster to explore and cheaper to hold, for human research and for AI and agent-driven workloads alike. Built for one kind of data (tick data, order books, and time-series feeds), Zettazip pairs two engines over a single archive to reduce storage, data transfer, and compute costs together.
How It Works: Two Engines, One Archive
Compression Engine: Type-Aware Encoding
General-purpose compressors treat market data as an opaque stream of bytes. Zettazip reads each column as a typed value, a timestamp, a price, a quantity, a sequence, and encodes it to match that type. Fitting the method to the meaning is what lets it compress market data more compactly than format-agnostic compressors can reach, typically 15 to 21 times smaller than raw tick data.
Tiered compression lets you choose the balance of ratio and throughput a workload needs, from high-speed ingestion to maximum-density cold storage
Fully lossless across every tier: reconstructed output is value-lossless against the original
Corruption detection built into the format, so it surfaces errors rather than returning wrong data silently
Query Engine: Compressed-Form Access
A query reads only the slice of data it needs and decodes that slice alone, returning answers without unpacking or reloading the whole archive. History that sat in cold storage, held cheaply but charged on every read, becomes something teams work against directly.
Run more ad-hoc queries against deep history without full-decompression overhead
Feed AI and agent-driven workloads that read years of history repeatedly, without paying the full cost of decoding on every pass
Key Outcomes for Buyers
Reduce archive storage costs by compressing market data more tightly than general-purpose tools
Accelerate historical research by querying compressed archives directly, without full extraction
Enable new workloads that were previously too expensive to run against large historical datasets
Make deep history AI-ready, with repeated reads over years of tick data at low marginal cost, suited to backtesting, model training, and agentic research
Deployment and Compatibility
Zettazip ships as a native library for Linux, Windows, and macOS, with a command-line tool for scripts and batch workflows. It is designed to drop into existing infrastructure:
No proprietary file format migration: works with your current data formats
No pipeline rewrite: integrates alongside your existing query engines and storage workflows
Object storage ready: built for large historical archives held in object storage
Built for Financial Market Data at Scale
Zettazip is purpose-built for organizations holding market data at scale, including banks, quantitative funds, trading firms, and market-data vendors managing large historical archives. The combination of type-aware compression and compressed-form querying addresses the specific economics of storing and accessing years of tick-level data.

Highlights
Two engines, one archive: ZettaZip combines a lossless compression codec with a query engine that operates directly on the compressed form. When you run a query, only the data needed to answer that question is read - the rest of the archive stays compressed. This eliminates the traditional workflow of decompressing an entire archive before querying, reducing both the time and the compute required to retrieve historical market data from cold storage.
Compression engineered for one kind of data: The codec reads each column as a typed value, timestamps, prices, quantities, sequences, and encodes it to match, compressing market data more compactly than a general-purpose compressor reaches. Every tier is fully lossless: output is value-lossless against the original, and corruption is detected rather than passed through silently.
Fits your existing stack: Distributed for Linux, Windows, and macOS with a command-line interface, ZettaZip drops into existing data pipelines and cold-storage workflows without requiring migration to a proprietary file format or a pipeline rewrite. You keep your existing formats and query engines, adding ZettaZip as a compression and retrieval layer with minimal integration overhead.

Zettazip - Queryable Compression Engine for Market Data
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour based on the AWS instance you run Zettazip on. The eight options split into two instance families. The c7i options (large, xlarge, 2xlarge, 4xlarge, 8xlarge) are compute-optimized. The m7i options (xlarge, 2xlarge, 4xlarge) balance memory and compute. Within each family, the larger the instance size, the higher the hourly rate, matching more CPU and memory. You pick the instance that fits your compression and query workload. Billing is usage-based, so you pay only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What resources do I get with each hourly instance, and how are hours counted?
Each option maps to one running AWS EC2 instance of that type. The c7i instances are compute-optimized; the m7i instances balance memory and compute. You pay for each hour the instance runs. Larger sizes give more CPU and memory at a higher hourly rate.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges accrue per running instance-hour. If you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the Zettazip software meters running time only.
How do I scale up when my compression or query workload grows?
You choose a larger instance size within the same family or switch families for a different memory-to-compute balance. Because billing is usage-based with no upfront commitment, you can move between the eight instance options as your workload changes and pay only for hours run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Zettazip - Usage Instructions
Zettazip is a lossless compression codec purpose-built for financial market
data (tick data, order-book snapshots, time-series feeds). It is pre-installed
on this instance and ready to use. Everything lives under /opt/zettazip/:
/opt/zettazip/zettazip command-line tool
/opt/zettazip/libzz.so shared library
/opt/zettazip/zz-api.h C API header (for library integration)
/opt/zettazip/README.txt quick-start notes
plus the CLI and Library PDF manuals
Compression levels L1-L5 are enabled automatically on instances launched
through your AWS Marketplace subscription. There is no key to enter and no
configuration to apply. Level 0 and decompression are always available.
Connect
ssh ubuntu@<instance-public-ip>
Verify the installation (about 30 seconds)
cd /opt/zettazip
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./zettazip --version
Compress / decompress round-trip (replace yourfile.csv with a real file)
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./zettazip -z yourfile.csv -o /tmp/test.zz
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./zettazip -d /tmp/test.zz -o /tmp/test_restored.csv
diff yourfile.csv /tmp/test_restored.csv && echo "OK: lossless"
If the last line prints "OK: lossless", the installation is working and
the output is bit-for-bit identical to the input.
Input data must be numeric, column-structured (integer or fixed-point).
Zettazip auto-detects column types; explicit column hints, block sizing,
and the full option set are covered in the CLI manual.
