    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Version release notes

The new release (v5.1.0) updates the OS to Ubuntu 22.04 and works with the latest version of aws-parallelcluster (v3.8.0). The MPI wrapper (OpenMPI) has been upgraded to a new major version v5.0.1. The AMI also updates WRF to v4.5.2 and includes CMAQv5.4. It also incorporates WRF-Chem (KPP1), WRFDA and WRFPLUS along with several postprocessing tools (WRF-python, ARWPost, GrADS, IDV) and it now includes 3 tools to download meteorological files in an expedited fashion: interactive download of GFS files, interactive download of NAM files, and download of GFS files with a one-line command.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

The full instructions on how to launch EC2 instances and clusters are available at https://odyhpc.com/aws_marketplace/ . Launching an instance running WRF is similar to launching other Linux-based instances as the connection requires ssh authentication. The username is 'ubuntu' and spot instances are available per the usual conditions.
