Overview
Odycloud Numerical Weather Prediction on AWS is a repackaged software product wherein additional charges apply for support and optimization of WRF for AWS infrastructure. Support to model users on how to launch and manage WRF is provided through support@odyhpc.com and videoconferencing. The AMI includes an integration of WRF with several open-source apps for data processing optimized for AWS infrastructure powered with Intel-Scalable processors. It has dual functionality as it can be used either on single instances or by clusters launched with AWS ParallelCluster; cluster performance & cost monitoring is also available. The AMI works with spot prices (usual conditions apply) for instances and cluster compute nodes. The package includes the following features: -Implementation of WRF v4.5, WRF-CHEM, WRFDA and WRFPLUS optimized for maximum performance in AWS instances powered by Intel Xeon Scalable processors (recommended series for peak performance: c5n, m5zn and c6i). -The AMI also includes WPS for preprocessing tasks along with WRF-python, ARWPost, GrADS and IDV as postprocessing tools. -Excellent scalability for clusters using Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA). -Availability of NICE-DCV connection for high-performance remote display. -App to accelerate the download of GFS data. -Customized Grafana dashboards to monitor performance & cost of AWS clusters.
Highlights
- Optimized installation of WRF v4.5 for AWS instances powered by Intel Scalable processors
- Dual AMI functionality for single instances and clusters
- Integration of pre and postprocessing apps along with cluster monitoring tools

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
The new release (v5.1.0) updates the OS to Ubuntu 22.04 and works with the latest version of aws-parallelcluster (v3.8.0). The MPI wrapper (OpenMPI) has been upgraded to a new major version v5.0.1. The AMI also updates WRF to v4.5.2 and includes CMAQv5.4. It also incorporates WRF-Chem (KPP1), WRFDA and WRFPLUS along with several postprocessing tools (WRF-python, ARWPost, GrADS, IDV) and it now includes 3 tools to download meteorological files in an expedited fashion: interactive download of GFS files, interactive download of NAM files, and download of GFS files with a one-line command.
