An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

- Automated MariaDB Setup: Includes a script that configures MariaDB with secure root passwords and the option for remote access.
- Backup Functionality: A script for backing up all MariaDB databases and retaining them in /home/ubuntu/mariadb_backup.
- Backup Retention: Backup files older than 7 days are automatically deleted.
- Restore Functionality: A script to restore MariaDB databases in new or old database from previously created backups.
- Cron Job for Backups: A cron job has been set up to automatically backup MariaDB databases daily.
- Secure Password Storage: The MariaDB root password is stored securely in /root/mariadb_root_password.txt

Usage instructions

Launch an Instance From AWS Marketplace, select Continue to Subscribe then Continue to Configuration. Choose the recommended instance type (t2.medium or larger). Configure your VPC, subnet, and security group.

Set Security Group Rules Allow: SSH (22) from your IP to access the instance. MariaDB (3306) only from trusted sources if remote access is required.

Connect to the Instance After launch, connect via SSH: ssh -i <your-key.pem> ubuntu@<Public-IP-of-Instance>

Initial Setup On first login, the automated script will: Prompt you to set a MariaDB root password (or generate one automatically). Ask if you want to enable remote MariaDB connections. Prompt you to configure firewall settings.

MariaDB Access Once setup is complete, access MariaDB with: mariadb -u root -p The root password is securely stored in: /root/mariadb_root_password.txt

Backups A daily cron job backs up all databases to: /home/ubuntu/mariadb_backup/ Backup files older than 7 days are deleted automatically.

Restore from Backup To restore a database from a backup file, run: /home/ubuntu/restore_db.sh <backup-file.sql>

Verification Run mariadb -u root -p -e "SHOW DATABASES;" to confirm setup. Check /var/log/mariadb/ for logs if troubleshooting is needed.
