Tetrate Patch Service keeps your Envoy and Istio data planes patched and provably up to date. An agent reports what is running in each cluster, Tetrate matches it against known CVEs and its release catalog, and a pull request in your GitOps repository rolls the fix out as a standard Kubernetes rolling update. Supports Envoy Gateway, Tetrate Enterprise Gateway, Tetrate Istio Subscription and Tetrate Istio Distro on Amazon EKS.
Tetrate Patch Service closes the gap between a security fix being published and that fix running in production. A read-only agent in each cluster reports every container image that is actually running. Tetrate matches those images against CVE feeds and its own release catalog, so you see which fixable critical and high vulnerabilities affect the exact versions you run, with nothing unfixable adding noise.
When a patched release is available, Patch Service opens a pull request in your private GitOps repository that changes only the affected image and chart versions. You review it, approve with a comment, and Argo CD applies the change as a standard rolling update. Tetrate never reaches into your cluster: the agent makes outbound calls only, and the repository deploy key is read-only, so the merge is always yours. Connect clusters manually with the Tetrate CLI or discover and onboard them across an AWS account in a few clicks.
Patch Service covers Envoy Gateway, Tetrate Enterprise Gateway, Tetrate Istio Subscription and Tetrate Istio Distro, with Envoy proxies from the creators and maintainers of Envoy and Istio. Billing is pay-as-you-go per Envoy proxy hour, metered from what the agent observes, so you pay for the data plane you actually run.
Highlights
Continuous CVE detection for the Envoy and Istio images actually running in your clusters
Patches applied with your approval, as zero-downtime rolling updates, and no access to your cluster required
Pay-as-you-go per Envoy proxy hour, priced on what you run, from the creators and maintainers of Envoy and Istio
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
You pay through a single usage-based dimension: the Envoy proxy hour. One running Envoy data-plane pod counts as one unit for each hour it runs. Your cost scales directly with how many data-plane pods run and how long they run. There are no tiers or fixed commitments. More running pods or longer runtimes mean more billed hours, while fewer running pods mean fewer hours. This ties your spend to the actual data-plane footprint the service monitors and patches across your clusters.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one Envoy proxy hour for billing?
One running Envoy data-plane pod counts as one unit for each hour it runs. The lightweight agent in each cluster reports the container images Tetrate publishes that are actually running. Billing reflects observed running pods, not pods that were simply planned or deployed on paper.
Am I charged for Envoy pods that are stopped or not currently running?
Charges apply per running Envoy data-plane pod per hour. If a pod is not running, it does not accrue hours. Your cost tracks the pods observed running in your clusters, so fewer running pods mean fewer billed hours and stopped pods stop adding to the bill.
Does the agent report my own application containers or only Tetrate images?
The agent matches running workloads against Tetrate's release catalog and reports only Tetrate-published images. Your own applications are never reported. This means only recognized data-plane components count toward Envoy proxy hour billing, not every container in your clusters.
