Give your AI agents real-world location context to enable reliable location decisions, grounded in HERE's enterprise-grade map data, live traffic, and road intelligence - at lower cost, even under complex, multi-constraint conditions.
Available via Model Context Protocol (MCP), HERE Location Reasoning is a model-agnostic spatial execution layer for your AI so any MCP-compatible agent can reason about the real world with consistent results, lower token usage, and reduced latency and API costs. Built for developers and enterprise teams building production-ready, location-aware AI agents.
HERE Location Reasoning is a deterministic spatial execution layer that connects your AI stack to HERE's trusted geospatial intelligence, enabling reliable decision-making. The LLM interprets user intent, while HERE Location Reasoning computes the underlying location logic such as routes, constraints, spatial relationships, and real-world feasibility.
Unlike traditional SaaS or REST-based mapping APIs, HERE Location Reasoning is purpose-built for agentic consumption - designed to be called autonomously by AI systems at runtime, returning answers faster while reducing token usage and unnecessary API calls, optimizing the cost of running location-based AI.

HLR exposes tools covering the core building blocks of spatial reasoning: Geocoding, Routing, Search and Discovery, Traffic, Isolines, Map Rendering, and Tool Discovery - solving complex spatial problems deterministically, something LLMs can't reliably do on their own. Activate agentic use-cases that require reachability over distance, multi-stop planning, constraint-aware routing, road-context, map attributes that define real-world access, live traffic and re-routing, and spatial verification for compliance and audit workflows.

This listing uses one pricing dimension: HLR Basic (Units). You pay a flat rate for each tool call made across all services included in HERE Location Reasoning. Tool calls cover tasks such as geocoding, routing, traffic analysis, place search, and map rendering, all billed at the same per-unit rate. Your cost scales directly with how many tool calls your AI agents make. There are no tiers or separate rates per service type. The more calls you run, the more units you consume, so billing tracks actual usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one tool call for billing?
A tool call is one request your AI agent sends to HERE Location Reasoning to run a task. These tasks include geocoding, routing, traffic analysis, place search, map rendering, transit planning, and isoline calculation. Each call to one of these tools is billed as a unit.
Does a multi-step query count as one tool call or several?
A single user request may break into several tool calls. For example, finding charging stations along a route can trigger separate calls to geocode locations, calculate the route, and search the corridor. Each of those calls counts as one unit, so a multi-step workflow consumes multiple units.
Does my cost change based on which service type I call?
No. All listed services bill at the same flat per-unit rate under HLR Basic (Units). A map rendering call costs the same as a routing or traffic call. There are no separate rates by service type, so your bill depends only on total call volume.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the good user interface of HERE Location Services, which clearly highlights flyovers and turns in a 3D manner. I found it to be better than Google Maps for these features. It makes flyers and turns identification easier and helps me avoid taking wrong turns or reduces confusion at signals, which decreases the chances of accidents.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the accuracy of HERE Location Services. Sometimes the routes shown aren't the best, or they suggest longer routes that take more time. The reliability isn't 100%.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
HERE Location Services helps with GPS navigation and directions, making it easier to avoid wrong turns and reduces confusion at signals. The interface clearly highlights flyovers and turns, reducing accidents.

Here Api for location based services
Reviewed on Jul 27, 2023
Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
The accuracy and easiness of use of the api's provided by here with their call support with email support is cherry on the top. Compared to its competitors the pricing is quite affordable and can be taken in use with less resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning to be taken to build an optimized version of location services with an already built application is very complex. When relying on third-party APIs, data and privacy may be a concern because one has to be very careful and responsible while sending customer data or company data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
HERE location has many services like geocoding, routing, traffic data, etc. In my use case, we were creating an automated validation of end users' information authenticity. For example, if a user has entered a location in his virtual form, we send it to the HERE API and validate it if we get the correct response back. Then the data is used for creating a route for delivering the products to the user correctly.

Alternative to Google maps
Reviewed on Jul 15, 2023

What do you like best about the product?
Here location services provide real-time traffic information. This app allows the user to update any congestion, accident, or police location in real-time. Provides the best alternative route which saves time and money.
What do you dislike about the product?
Here location services have just above average UI which is kind of cartoonish which many of us may not like. The app hangs sometimes which makes users frustrated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As mentioned, this is an alternative to Google Maps with multiple options for users to update real-time situations, which benefits co-drivers, and the update from users will take minimal approval to go live in the application.
