Try this product free for 7 days according to the free trial terms set by the vendor. Usage-based pricing is in effect for usage beyond the free trial terms. Your free trial gets automatically converted to a paid subscription when the trial ends, but may be canceled any time before that.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this preconfigured Etherpad appliance. The software itself carries the same hourly rate across all options; your cost changes with the compute size you select. Choices span general-purpose families (m-series, t-series), compute-optimized families (c-series), memory-optimized families (r-series), and storage-optimized families (i-series). Within each family, prices scale with instance size, from nano and micro up through 2xlarge. Smaller instances suit light testing, while larger instances handle more concurrent editing. You can stop anytime, since billing follows actual usage hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly software charge beyond the base Etherpad editor?
You get a preconfigured appliance with the real-time collaborative editor installed, a relational database set up for production, a web server proxy with SSL out of the box, and a mail transfer agent for sending email. It also bundles cloud backup, restore, and chat and email support through the vendor's hub.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
Billing follows running hours, so the software charge stops accruing when the instance is powered off. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for the attached volume, but the software license meters active running time only. Restarting the instance resumes hourly charges.
Does the hourly rate differ by instance type, or only the underlying compute cost?
The software rate is the same across every instance type listed. Your total cost changes because the underlying AWS compute charge differs by instance family and size. Picking a larger instance raises the compute portion of your bill, not the software portion.
