AlgoSec offers actionable reports that various application owner departments can immediately use to optimize their firewall rule base and fine-tune their network security policies, and it integrates very well with security operations center tools as well as IT asset management tools.

    What needs improvement?

AlgoSec can improve with more customer outreach to tier two and tier three cities globally, leveraging emerging GenAI capabilities, and contributing effectively to the resilience operations readiness of a large bank by integrating with other security solutions implemented organization-wide.

Regarding AlgoSec's AI capabilities, it offers robust governance features that fit well into the bank's overall IT governance structure, and its security is almost foolproof. However, I would like to give feedback about addressing zero-day vulnerabilities at an equal pace with the emerging AI-driven threats.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AlgoSec for the past five to six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

AlgoSec is very stable, scalable, robust, and resilient in my experience.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of AlgoSec in my environment is extremely high, as it is deployable across various data centers and on multiple firewall devices spread across these centers.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for AlgoSec is excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

AlgoSec is the first NSPM solution implemented in our organization.

    What was our ROI?

I have certainly seen a return on investment, as automating the firewall rule application process through AlgoSec's portal allows application owners to opt for new rule additions, modifications, deletions, and extensions, facilitating a holistic view of the firewall rule base.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with AlgoSec's pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that it is quite affordable, and the return on investment is handsome compared to the initial capex, as it helps improve the network security posture and the governance risk compliance posture of the institution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing AlgoSec, we evaluated similar products from Cisco and Palo Alto, but we opted for AlgoSec because of its competency in firewall rule base analysis and NSPM.

What other advice do I have?

I advise others looking into using AlgoSec to opt for it immediately if they want to improve their network security policy management and optimize their firewall rule base while achieving a unified view of their firewall rules.

Automation has transformed firewall changes and now accelerates secure application delivery

    Reviewed on May 31, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

AlgoSec 's absolute main use case for our organization is security change automation combined with firewall rule lifecycle management. Before implementation, there was constant friction between the application teams wanting fast deployments and the security team trying to prevent a breach. Day-to-day, a perfect example of how this plays out is when an app team is deploying an update or moving a service. Instead of a developer opening a generic ticket saying open ports XYZ between the given IP ranges, which used to take us days of back-and-forth emails to decipher, they now raise a connectivity request. Then FireFlow automatically tracks that request and runs a predictive risk analysis against our live network topology. While that's happening, AppViz associates the request directly with the specific business application. So we know exactly what business function is asking for that access. If AFA, the Firewall Analyzer, flags that the requested traffic path is already open, the ticket closes automatically with a note saying you are already good to go. If it does need a change, it analyzes the entire path across our on-prem firewalls and hybrid cloud environments. That tells us exactly which devices need a rule update, ensures it won't introduce a high-risk vulnerability, and moves it to an approval. What used to take an entire week of manual rule checking, topology tracing, and security meetings now happens in under an hour. It completely shifted us from blindly managing box-to-box firewall rules to managing the actual business application, which is very safe now.

Another massive piece of that puzzle is how we handle application migrations and continuous compliance. Continuous compliance is a huge part of how AlgoSec  fits into the broader operational workflow, extending beyond day-to-day tickets. For example, we recently had a major project migration of some of our application infrastructure from legacy local Windows environments over to an Ubuntu-based virtual private server setup. In the past, lifting and shifting infrastructure was a complete nightmare. We would always end up with broken connectivity, shadowed rules, or an unexpected application outage, and we did not understand the dependencies. AlgoSec completely flipped the narrative. We used AppViz to discover and map out exactly what dependencies the application had before we even touched the software. And then using AFA, we could simulate the traffic flows for the new environment, validate the connectivity requirements, and identify exactly what security policies need updating and migration. It took all the guesswork out of the migration and completely de-risked the project.

How has it helped my organization?

The best features AlgoSec offers come down to three things that completely changed how we operate. The first one is the application-centric view. Network security usually involves starting at IPs, subnets, and ports, which means absolutely nothing to actual business leaders. This feature translates all of the infrastructure data into a map for all of the applications. The second one is predictive risk and zero-touch automation, FireFlow. Before we make a single change to a firewall, FireFlow runs a what-if traffic simulation across our live topology. The third one is visual topology and rule cleanup, which is the same as the AFA analyzer. Our firewall rule bases were a total mess, thousands of legacy rules, and overlapping policies that nobody wanted to touch just in case it broke something. AFA gives a centralized visual topology map across our entire hybrid network. This is what we needed to transfer or migrate our application.

Of those three, if I have to pick one that fundamentally changed my day-to-day life, it's predictive risk and zero-touch automation. The initial rule cleanup with AFA was crucial for getting our house in order, and the application-centric view is amazing for high-level meetings, but FireFlow is the engine that keeps my daily stress levels low and operations moving fast. A huge part of our environment involves constant and fast-evolving, data-heavy applications and specialized network traffic. We maintain dashboard services that are constantly pulling in massive streams of data from various APIs such as FRED, BLS, BEA, and EIA to aggregate different economic indicators. Alongside that, we also manage some highly specific infrastructure for email, dealing with custom SMTP handshakes and IMAP connections. In the old days, every time we needed to whitelist a new external data source, adjust a port for our mail servers, or even open a path for a new back-end component, it meant grinding to a halt. We would submit a ticket, then wait, and the security team had to manually verify that opening outbound access to a new government API or allowing a specific protocol wouldn't expose our network. It created constant friction that stalled development and operations. Now, with FireFlow's zero-touch automation, that bottleneck is gone. When we need to open a path for a new data feed, we just submit a flow requirement. FireFlow instantly evaluates the request against our established security policies, simulates the traffic path, and verifies the risk is strictly acceptable, then pushes the change to the firewall automatically. We get the connectivity we need for our infrastructure almost instantly, and the security team doesn't have to waste their afternoon manually reviewing and approving a routine connectivity request. It basically turned security from a roadblock into an invisible enabler.

The impact has been night and day, especially when you look at our operational speed and our security posture. We have massive improvements in three areas. First and probably the most measurable is our SLA for application delivery. Our Koala trading platform has a fairly complex architecture with a Python-based back-end that needs to communicate securely with several distinct front-end components and external data feeds. In the past, provisioning the firewall rules for a multi-tier environment would have easily taken three to four weeks of ticket ping-pong and manual risk assessment. With AlgoSec, we modeled the connectivity requirements with AppViz, ran the security risk checks, and let FireFlow automate the actual rule creation. We had the network security layer ready for production in under 48 hours. That kind of speed to market is huge for our business. The second one is we drastically reduced our attack surface by cleaning up legacy technical debt. When we first deployed the Firewall Analyzer, we ran an audit on our core firewalls and discovered that nearly 30 percent of our rules were completely unused. We used AlgoSec's automated rule cleanup workflows to safely disable and review those obsolete rules over a few months without causing a single outage. Finally, I would mention another compliance metric. Audit preparation used to be an absolute nightmare. We would literally pull two senior engineers off their regular projects for about three weeks just to manually gather evidence, take screenshots, and justify rule sets for our annual audits. Now, continuous compliance runs in the background all the time. When the auditors come in, we just generate the necessary reports in about an hour.

Without a doubt, faster application delivery has had the most significant effect on my team's day-to-day work. Specifically, the automated change management through FireFlow has had the most profound impact on our daily lives. It completely elevated the team's role. We aren't just firewall personnel saying no to everything anymore. We are actively building and supporting the business because we finally  have the time to do it. The overall team's morale is dramatically better when you aren't doing mind-numbing manual data entry all day.

    What is most valuable?

I would suggest the visual topology and rule cleanup one, the AFA Firewall Analyzer.

    What needs improvement?

When it comes to improvements or things that can be a bit frustrating, I think they really come down to the realities of deploying a massive enterprise platform rather than actual deficiencies in the software itself. I would tell people to watch out for the fact that the initial deployment is a heavy lift. This isn't a plug-and-play tool that you install on a Friday and get value from on a Monday. Because it integrates so deeply into your environment, pulling in your on-prem firewalls, your cloud security groups, and your network routing tables, the initial discovery and setup phase can be highly complex if your existing network architecture is messy, which everyone's is. AlgoSec is going to expose all of that upfront. Getting all firewalls connected, parsing the configuration, and resolving routing issues in the topology map takes a lot of dedicated engineering time. But after that, the product is a flawless piece of software you can get for your organization. Because after that heavy lifting, you don't have to do anything. You don't even have to lift a finger to actually get all the firewall assessments and the risk behind those. It will give it to you on a single click, and that's a huge upgrade for what we do in our day-to-day activities with AlgoSec. I would 100 percent recommend to heavy-lift the first few setups, and you are good to go with a fine, smoother experience afterwards.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for three and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

When it comes to the accuracy and reliability of AlgoSec's outputs, we actually have a high degree of trust in it because it's an enterprise security tool. It operates differently than a generic conversational AI. It doesn't actually hallucinate the infrastructure. It isn't guessing or generating creative answers about our network. It is directly querying our live ASMS database. Also, it has a deterministic traffic simulation, so the network path analysis is 100 percent accurate. There are strict guardrails for changes. It doesn't write free-form, unverified firewall rules that could break production. If a developer uses it to submit a change request, AlgoSec forces that request into predefined FireFlow templates. There is no stale data because AlgoSec connects directly to the live AlgoSec SaaS environment.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend AlgoSec 100 percent. It is, without a doubt, the best-in-class product. I wouldn't want to manage a hybrid network without it.

In our industry, an AI tool is only as good as the governance and security wrapped around it. When AlgoSec introduced their AI assistant, Algo, our internal risk and compliance teams were naturally skeptical. You can't just plug a generative AI bot into your core network security infrastructure without asking serious questions about data and privacy control. But what actually sold us on utilizing their AI capabilities is how meticulously they architect the governance. It isn't just a shiny wrapper; it's built for enterprise realities. What stands out in AI governance is strict role-based access control and authentication. Another aspect would be absolute data isolation, which is the stateless architecture, and enterprise-grade compliance. You can't just take a vendor's word for it, so their certifications mattered a lot, and that gave us high credibility to use AlgoSec's AI capabilities.

We were running a true hybrid deployment, and that's exactly why we chose AlgoSec in the first place.

We did purchase AlgoSec from AWS Marketplace .

If I were giving advice to another organization looking to bring AlgoSec in, especially if they are procuring and deploying it through AWS Marketplace  as we did, buying through the AWS Marketplace is an incredibly smart move because it simplifies the procurement and billing side. My main advice is to make sure you fully leverage that AWS  integration on a technical side as well. A lot of teams buy it and just focus on their physical on-prem firewalls. Don't do that. Immediately plug it into your AWS  environment, your VPCs, security groups, and transit gateways. Getting that unified visibility across your cloud and on-prem environments from day one is where the immediate ROI is. This review has been given a rating of 10.
