Automation has transformed firewall policy management and simplified compliance workflows
What is our primary use case?
I have been using AlgoSec for the last three years.
I primarily use AlgoSec for firewall policy management, network security visibility, and compliance monitoring, and also for automating security policy changes across my hybrid infrastructure.
One common example in handling firewall access requests for new applications or services is using AlgoSec, where I can automatically analyze the traffic path, identify affected firewalls, and validate whether the requested rule policies comply with existing security policies before deployment. For compliance monitoring, I use AlgoSec to regularly review firewall rules and identify outdated, unused, or overly permissive policies, which helps maintain compliance standards and reduce security risks.
What is most valuable?
The best features of AlgoSec in my experience are its firewall policy management, automated risk analysis, and network visibility capabilities. The application connectivity mapping feature is especially useful because it provides a clear view of traffic flows and helps identify potential security or connectivity issues quickly. Another standout feature is the automation of security policy changes, which reduces manual effort and speeds up approval workflows. The compliance monitoring and audit reporting features are also very valuable for maintaining security standards and simplifying audit preparation.
The application connectivity mapping feature in AlgoSec has been very useful for troubleshooting and change management. One specific example was during the deployment of a new internal application where users were experiencing connectivity issues between different network segments. Using the connectivity mapping feature, I was able to quickly visualize the traffic path, identify which firewall rules were blocking the communication, and determine the exact devices involved. This reduced troubleshooting time significantly and helped me implement the required policy changes much faster while maintaining security compliance.
AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by improving network security visibility, reducing manual effort in firewall management, and streamlining compliance processes. It helped my team and organization to automate security policy reviews and change management tasks, which reduced configuration errors and improved operational efficiency.
Since implementing AlgoSec, I have seen noticeable improvements in operational efficiency and policy management. Finally, a Single Pane of Glass for my AWS and Legacy On-Prem Firewalls
The automated risk analysis is excellent. it doesn't just tell you the rule is "risky" it explains why based on the actual traffic flow and the sensitivity of the connected assets. it's also helped us significantly with the Rule Cleanup.
The absolute part is that it finally bridges the translation gap between App Dev teams and the security team. In most tools, you're just looking the IP addresses and ports, but the horizon's AppViz component lets us see the business context. When a developer asks why their connection is being dropped, i don't have to spend an hour digging through files, I can pull up the Application Connectivity Map see exactly which security policy is bottleneck
What i like the best is:
Intuitive Dashboard: The interface is clean and easy to navigate, making it simple to check compliance status, application connectivity, and risk posture.
Proactive Risk Alerts: Horizon flags potential misconfigurations or risky rules before they cause issues, which builds confidence in daily operations.
Application-Cenrtic View: Instead of focusing only on firewalls or devices, it shows how applications are impacted, which is far more meaningful for end-users.
Self-Service Queries: Users can quickly validate connectivity or compliance without waiting for IT invention.
Policy Automation: Automates firewall and cloud security group changes, reducing manual errors and speeding up approvals.
Compliance Reporting: Generates audit-ready reports for standards like PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR, saving significant time during assessments.
Scalability: Handles large enterprise environments without performance degradation.
Don't just look as it as a firewall too, Use the application-centric mapping. It makes explaining security risks to non-technical stakeholders much eaiser.
Another minor pain point is the Reporting UI customization. While the standard compliance templates for PCI and SOC2 are great out of the box, trying a build highly specific, custom-branded report for internal stakeholders has a bit of a learning curve. I found myself wishing for a slightly more intuitive drag and drop report builder for those one-off executive presentationss.
It also tackled our Audit Anxiety. In the past, whenever the auditors came knocking for PCI of SOC2 compliance, it was a "all-hands-on-deck" situation for two weeks just to gather the data. Now we use Horizon to pull a "Continuous Compliance" report. It constantly monitors our posture, so we know where the gaps are before the audits starts. This has turned a two-week manual nightmare into task that takes us about half a day.
Finally, it's bridged the gap between our Cloud and On-prem teams. Usually, these two groups speak different languages- one is looking AWs Security Groups and the other at physical Check point or Fortinet firewalls. Horizon gives us a single "source of truth" if a developer says their app can't talk to the database, we can see the whole path-from the cloud instance, through the VPN, to the on-prem server-in one view. That alone has cut our troubleshooting time by at least 60%.
User-friendly audit workflows have simplified quarterly firewall reviews and reduced redundant rules
What is our primary use case?
We are new to AlgoSec . This tool is new for us and we are going to use it for audit purposes for the client.
We will use AlgoSec for quarterly purposes where we will be working on the rules applied on the firewalls, Panorama, and Palo Altos.
AlgoSec will help us identify the number of shadowed rules and redundant rules that have been applied on particular firewalls. These reports are being generated depending upon sector-wise data that we will be creating. As we have nine sectors in total, we will be defining our firewalls based on these nine sectors and then accordingly we will generate the report as per a single sector.
What is most valuable?
AlgoSec is very user-friendly, easy to navigate, and performance-wise the reports are being generated with accuracy of the data that we are looking for. There is no latency in the tool as well as the application.
All the workflows in AlgoSec are quite simple and to the point where we don't have to provide any extra information; just pinpoint information is enough to get the results.
Everything seems to be up to the mark with top-notch configuration and top-notch features. The reports and data are working collaboratively fine and are easy to navigate and understand. For even a new user, it is very user-friendly.
What needs improvement?
Currently everything seems to be fine with AlgoSec. There is no need for any improvement at this time, but in the future if required, we will let the team know.
For how long have I used the solution?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
AlgoSec is stable based on my initial impressions and expectations.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
AlgoSec is easy in terms of scalability.
How are customer service and support?
We did interact with customer support, and they seem to be quite friendly and helpful. The SLAs to connect with the customer are less compared to the previous tool, which is Skybox. Within hours we can get our queries resolved.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using Skybox earlier. Skybox became unavailable, so we switched to AlgoSec.
How was the initial setup?
AlgoSec is yet to be deployed in the system, but we are in talks with AlgoSec team to get it deployed as soon as possible.
What was our ROI?
Nothing as of now because the tool is yet to be deployed. I cannot commit on this.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The experience with AlgoSec's pricing, setup cost, and licensing is fine. Compared to the last tool which we were using, it's quite cheaper and the licensing cost is less compared to the previous tools. It is pocket-friendly as well.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other options before choosing AlgoSec. We evaluated Tufin.
What other advice do I have?
AlgoSec is very user-friendly, very accurate, and provides pinpoint information as per required by the customer or the client. We can definitely advise other people to switch to AlgoSec. I would rate this product a ten out of ten.
