What am I actually paying for in the hourly rate for each instance type?
The hourly rate covers the Rocky Linux 9.2 software license plus maintenance support delivered through the Amazon Machine Image. This software charge is separate from the underlying AWS EC2 compute cost. You pick the instance type that matches your workload and pay per hour it runs.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's software charge.
Can I switch to a different instance type later, and how does that change my cost?
Yes. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so moving to a different type simply changes which hourly rate applies going forward. Larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU types carry higher hourly rates than smaller general-purpose types. You are billed at the rate of whichever instance runs.

Use the ssh to connect to the instance. You specify the path and file name of the private key (.pem), the user name for your instance (Username -rocky) , and the public DNS name or IPv6 address for your instance.
