What does the hourly rate for each instance type actually pay for?
You pay for the hardened Rocky Linux 9.2 software licence running on that instance type. This charge is separate from the AWS compute, storage, and network fees you pay to AWS. The listed rate covers the pre-configured operating system image only, metered per hour the instance runs.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters only while the instance runs. Stopped or paused instances do not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still owe AWS for attached storage during that time, but that fee comes from AWS, not from this listing.
If I move to a bigger instance type, how does my bill change?
Each instance type has its own hourly software rate. When you switch, billing follows the new instance type's rate from that point. Larger or more capable instances carry higher rates. Only the hours run at each type are billed at that type's rate.

Use the ssh to connect to the instance. You specify the path and file name of the private key (.pem), the user name for your instance (Username -rocky) , and the public DNS name or IPv6 address for your instance.
