Up-to-date and secure image of the open-source RDBMS MonetDB, the pioneering of columnar RDBMS known for its high performance for data analytics (OLAP) and hybrid transactional/analytical processing (HTAP).
MonetDB provides an SQL compliant database interface, supporting the common SQL features such as keys, joins, views, triggers, stored procedures, and user authentications and data access control. In addition, it also supports full-ACID support for concurrent transactions; high scale-up performance, scale-out using distributed merge tables; SQL:1999 ROLLUP, CUBE and GROUPING SETS; SQL:2003 merge statements; SQL:2011 window functions; User Defined Functions in SQL, C/C++, Python and R; and seamless integration with a plethora of programming languages.

What do you like best about the product?
It uses standard SQL with makes it simple to use and has easier adaptation. It's architecture is based on columnar design which makes analysis of big data fast. It is easy to implement as it support cross platform and light weight. It has good support as it is open source its community is really helpful and active. Its in-memory and bulk loading features is well implemented as I frequently use it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has good integration support but I had faced issue while integrating it with python connector for my data science workflow. Also it has limited indexing option compared to its competitors and it also lack auto scaling.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves our data warehousing problem and helps us in cross data analysis and run statistical analytics on our IoT sensor data for research. It is also cost effective solution compared to others and also helps in avoiding time consuming tasks for moving data for analysis as it allows natively run python scripts with connector.

We were trying to find something which is PostgreSQL alternative (relational database) and support XML

Only JDBC , ODBC supported and some native C library

We wanted to find PosgreSQL alternative with XML support, we made PoC and migrate some XML data .

What do you like best about the product?
MonetDB comes with a high speed query processing system. It contains various extra advantages which helps users while storing, retrieving or analysing the data. User-defined functions that can be loaded is the one i like the most.
