Milvus Vector Database AMI for Scalable AI & RAG Applications
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you pick, plus AWS infrastructure charges. The software runs as a preconfigured AMI, so pricing scales with the compute you choose, not with users or data volume. Options span several instance families: burstable t2 and t3/t3a types, general-purpose m4 through m7 series, compute-optimized c5/c5a/c6a types, and memory-optimized r5/r5a/r6a/r6i types. Within each family, larger sizes (large, xlarge) carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones (small, medium). The vendor recommends t3a.large as a baseline; heavier workloads use larger types.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged for the software when I stop or pause my EC2 instance?
The software meters running instance-hours. When you stop the instance, hourly software charges stop too. You can restart it later as needed. A stopped instance may still incur AWS storage fees for its attached EBS volume, but the software licence bills only while the instance runs.
What do I get for the hourly rate, and does it include the AWS compute?
The hourly rate covers the preconfigured Milvus AMI running on the instance size you pick. AWS bills the underlying EC2 compute, storage, and network separately. Your total is the software hourly charge plus AWS infrastructure charges for the same instance-hours.
How do I move to a larger instance type if my workload grows?
Back up your Milvus collections and data, then relaunch the AMI on a larger instance type. When a new AMI version ships, back up your data, remove the previous deployment, and relaunch. Your hourly rate then follows the new instance size you choose.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

IAM Role is set up and configured with the necessary permissions to assume the role for the Milvus service. The IAM Policy is created and responsible for access Route53 and create Letsencrypt SSL certificates and backing up data to the S3 bucket.
Access the application via a browser at http://<your domain name> or http://<Public IPv4 address>.
Product will try to create SSL certificate when its deploying, if domain hosted on route53. If the automatic SSL creation unsuccessful then you have to point domain name into server ip, ssh into server and run /root/certificate_generate_standalone.sh. Admin email using for SSL generation."

Milvus is an open-source vector database for similarity search over embeddings, deployed here in its standalone configuration: the Milvus engine plus etcd for metadata and MinIO for object storage on a single instance. This Lynxroute build is hardened and ready out of the box: authentication enabled before the database first starts with a unique password generated at first boot, the management console published only over TLS behind its own credentials, the metrics port and object store bound to loopback only, UFW firewall pre-configured, and a CIS Level 1 hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base.
