This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use Nextcloud 34 file sharing server. Store, sync and share files, calendars and contacts on your own server, with unique passwords for every instance.
Nextcloud is a popular open source platform for file storage, sync and sharing. It gives your team a private alternative to public file-sharing services: files, photos, calendars and contacts stay on a server you control, and people reach them from a browser, the desktop sync apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, or the mobile apps for Android and iOS. This image gives businesses, schools, colleges and IT teams a working Nextcloud server in minutes, with no installer to run and no database to create.
What is included: Nextcloud 34.0.3 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Apache 2.4 with PHP 8.3, MySQL 8.0, phpMyAdmin 5.2 for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. The Nextcloud setup is already complete, so you can sign in, create users and start uploading files straight away. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own Nextcloud administrator, MySQL root and Webmin passwords and registers its own public IP address with Nextcloud. SSH accepts key-based login only, MySQL listens only on the local machine, and every component is installed from its official source on Canonical's Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Nextcloud itself is open source software licensed under AGPL-3.0. Nextcloud is a trademark of Nextcloud GmbH; this image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open http://<public-ip>/nextcloud in your browser and sign in. Nextcloud 34, MySQL, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already installed and configured, with no setup wizard to complete.
Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own Nextcloud, MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot, SSH is key-only, and the database is not exposed to the internet.
Your files on your own server: sync with the Nextcloud desktop and mobile apps, share links with passwords and expiry dates, and add calendars, contacts and office apps from the Nextcloud app store.

Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay an hourly software charge based on the EC2 instance type you run. Every dimension is an instance size, not a feature tier. The software itself is identical across all of them; you choose the compute that fits your workload. Pricing scales with instance size, so smaller types like t3a.medium cost less per hour than large compute, memory, storage, or GPU types. Your AWS bill adds standard EC2 and storage costs on top. Billing is hourly and stops when you stop the instance. A 5-day free trial applies before charges begin.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to in terms of compute?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. The software charge meters per instance-hour. Instance types range from shared-burstable sizes like t3a.medium up to compute, memory, storage, and GPU families. The software itself is identical; only the underlying compute capacity differs.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. Stop the instance and the software charge stops. A stopped instance may still accrue standard AWS storage fees for its attached volume, but the software licence bills active runtime, not idle or stopped states.
What costs appear beyond the hourly software charge?
Two charges combine on your AWS bill. The hourly software charge is set by the instance type you run. On top, AWS adds its own standard EC2 compute and storage costs for that instance and its volume. Both bill simultaneously on your usual cloud invoice, with no separate contract.

Vendor refund policy
Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
