Samba Active Directory - Preconfigured Domain Controller
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run this preconfigured domain controller on. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance size, so pricing scales with the compute resources you choose. Options span several instance families: general-purpose (t, m), compute-optimized (c), memory-focused (r), and storage-focused (i) types. Within each family, larger sizes carry higher hourly rates. Smaller sizes like t3.nano suit light workloads, while xlarge and 2xlarge sizes handle heavier loads. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged for the software when my EC2 instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing hourly software fees. You may still pay AWS for attached storage on a stopped instance, but the software meter counts running hours only. This suits workloads you can pause between uses.
What do I get for each hourly rate, and can I move to a different instance size later?
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of that type, billed per hour. The rate reflects the instance's CPU and memory. You can launch a different instance size later by starting a new instance under that dimension. Your hourly charge then follows the new size.
What is included with the appliance beyond the running instance, and what is not covered?
You get a preconfigured Samba4-based domain controller with SSL, Webmin administration, and optional printing support. Bundled cloud backup and getting-started support require separate Hub registration. AWS charges for storage, data transfer, and Elastic IP addresses are separate from the hourly software rate.
