You pay by the hour for this ready-to-run Active Directory Domain Controller image on Windows 2019. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, and every instance runs the same software. The instance types span general-purpose families such as t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4, m5, and m5 variants with local storage or network options. Your hourly rate scales with the size and family you pick, from small burstable instances up to large and bare-metal options. Choose the instance that fits your workload's compute, memory, and networking needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get when I pick one of these hourly instance dimensions?
Each dimension launches a ready-to-run Windows 2019 image with the Active Directory Domain Controller software installed. The instance type you choose sets the compute, memory, and networking. You get a deployable image you promote to a domain controller. Every dimension runs the same software, differing only by hardware size.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly software fees. You may still pay underlying AWS storage costs for the volume while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again. This matters for standby or hybrid domain controller setups.
How does my hourly rate change if I switch instance types?
Your rate is tied to the specific instance type you run, not to features. Larger families and sizes bill at higher hourly rates. To change cost, you launch a different instance type from the dimension list. The software stays identical, so you pay only for the hardware size you select.
