You pay by the hour for this hardened Oracle Linux 9 image, billed per running EC2 instance. There is no upfront commitment or fixed term. The many dimensions listed are not tiers or feature levels. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU-accelerated options. Your hourly software rate depends on which instance type you launch. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates. You add standard AWS infrastructure charges separately. The hardened image configuration stays the same across every instance type you choose.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what is NOT included in that software rate?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the chosen type, billed per hour for the hardened Oracle Linux 9 image. The rate covers the published image configuration only. You pay AWS compute, storage, and network charges separately. Your applications, identity, networking, data, and monitoring remain your responsibility.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running instance time. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, billed by AWS separately. Billing resumes when you start the instance again.
Does my hourly rate change if I move the workload to a different instance type?
Yes. The rate is tied to the specific instance type you launch, not to a fixed subscription. Switching to a larger instance type raises your hourly software rate; switching to a smaller one lowers it. The hardened image configuration stays identical across every instance type.

Regarding Hardened Configurations
Utilizing Hardened Images requires a nuanced approach due to their advanced security configurations and access controls, which may need additional adjustments for compatibility with specific workflows or applications. These images are designed with enhanced security measures to minimize vulnerabilities, offering superior protection compared to baseline images without pre-configured security settings. Integrating them seamlessly into your operations might involve collaboration with security experts or providers for customization, ensuring both robust security and operational functionality.
