You pay through a single consumption billing unit that covers all Claude Platform usage. This unit applies across every model and feature, so there are no separate plans or tiers to choose. Your cost scales with how much you use. Usage is measured by input and output tokens, which are the units of text the models process and generate. Different models carry different token rates, and effort or reasoning settings affect how many tokens a task consumes. Options like prompt caching and batch processing can lower token costs. You are billed based on total consumption.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What is one consumption billing unit measured in?
Usage is measured in tokens, the chunks of text a model reads and writes. Input tokens cover the text you send. Output tokens cover the text the model generates. Each model charges a different rate per million input tokens and per million output tokens.
How do input and output tokens combine into my bill?
Both charge separately and add together on the same invoice. Output tokens carry a higher rate than input tokens for a given model. Long generated responses raise output charges, while large prompts raise input charges. Total consumption across both drives your cost.
Can I lower my token costs without changing models?
Yes. Prompt caching reuses repeated input across requests and can cut costs up to 90% on cached content. Batch processing groups non-urgent requests and can cut costs up to 50%. Running inference in a US-only region raises input and output rates by 1.1x.

Amazing Output and Easy to Use—Claude Is My Go-To AI

What do you like best about the product?
I mostly use Claude for my college projects, coding, and some research-based work, and it really stands out. I haven’t come across a single AI that I feel delivers such amazing output. It’s very easy to use and work with, and right now Claude is my go-to AI product for almost everything.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, I didn’t feel anything was wrong with Claude. It’s headed in the right direction, but they could improve their UI a bit. It can be a little confusing for beginners, but as you keep using it, you’ll understand it very well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Claude provides more tokens than most of the LLMs out there, which helps me stay productive, even while I’m on the free plan.

Claude + Fable: Fast, Intuitive, and Worth Every Dollar

What do you like best about the product?
Claude has the ability to handle my complex tasks without any issues. I can give it detailed instructions, and it follows them faithfully. The UI is intuitive, and I also like that I can use Cowork with Claude integrated while still using the desktop app to enter prompts for Cowork. Fable has excellent power - it can complete tasks in minutes that Opus takes hours to do. I pay $200/month for Max, and I’ve found it to be completely worth the money. With the addition of Fable, Claude has become my go-to for all of my LLM work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish Claude would go ahead and make Fable a tier you can purchase. I do not like running out of my weekly allowed Fable credits. I would much prefer a defined price monthly instead of surprises that all the sudden I need to pay more to continue what I am working on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Claude is currently streamlining multiple work tasks for me. The most helpful at this time are the agents I have built using Claude to give me automatic reports on users, email collection, and orders. These are things I don't have time to sort through myself on a continual basis. It is saved me about 2 hours daily for this work.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Claude has the ability to create and understand complex tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Claude can somewhat be intimidating for first time users. It's tools can be somewhat confusing when first logging on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am not a pro at creating spreadsheets and using it functions, such as sums. Claude has been able to create and also analyze spreadsheets for me, while also building them in a way that is easier for me to understand.

Deep, Content-Aware Responses That Make Rewriting Fast and Natural
Reviewed on Aug 12, 2026
Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What's stood out most is dropping in a huge PDF or codebase and getting a response that clearly engaged with the actual content, not just pattern matching on headers. Also use it a lot for rewriting stuff in a more natural tone instead like corporate copy, which sounds small but has saved me a bunch of editing times on drafts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Longer conversations sometimes lose earlier context if I go off on a tangent for a while, I've had to re-paste details partway through a chat more than once.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Started using it mainly for coding help and ended up relying on it for a lot more, drafting, reviewing docs, explaining stuff I did not fully understand yet. the context slipping in long threads is a minor annoyance, but for day to day work it's held up better than other AI tools I've tried.
