Am I charged when the instance is stopped, and is there any long-term commitment?
No. You subscribe only for the time the image runs. When the instance is not running, the software charge stops. There is no long-term commitment. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply separately while an instance is stopped.
Is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux license included, or do I pay for that separately?
Where a license is required, the seller notes it in the product listing on the cloud provider's website. Check that listing detail to confirm whether operating system licensing is bundled into the hourly rate or billed separately by the cloud provider.

Launching the EC2 Instance
1.1. Navigate to the AWS EC2 Console - Launch Instance
1.2. Select the AMI: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (x86_64)
1.3. Choose an instance type, e.g., t3.large or larger (Cassandra benefits from more memory and CPU)
1.4. Create or select an existing SSH Key Pair:
Save the .pem private key securely
This key will be used for SSH access
1.5. Configure the Security Group:
Allow SSH (port 22) inbound access (preferably limited to your IP)
Allow Cassandra ports as needed:
7000 (intra-node communication)
7001 (SSL intra-node communication)
7199 (JMX monitoring)
9042 (CQL native transport)
9160 (Thrift, optional)
(Limit access by IP range for security)
1.6. Launch the instance
Connecting to the EC2 Instance
2.1. Connection Prerequisites
Ensure your SSH private key (.pem) file is available
Default user: cloud-user
SSH runs on port 22
The server uses key-based authentication only:
Password login is disabled (PasswordAuthentication no)
Root login is disabled (PermitRootLogin no)
Replace /path/to/your-key.pem and <EC2_Public_IP> appropriately
