Overview
Overview
Identifying where resources and personnel need to be sent within affected areas to help the local population is a core part of a disaster response effort. The HSR.health Hurricane Health Risk Index proactively identifies the health and medical needs due to the hurricane, aiding emergency response efforts, resource allocation, and policy decisions.
Utilizing social, environmental, economic, and health conditions data, this Risk Index identifies a priori the health and medical needs of the hurricane-impacted population.
The Hurricane Health Risk Index has been developed through numerous pilots funded by the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.K. Hydrographic Office. Video demonstrations of those pilot results for the U.S. East Coast and the Caribbean can be viewed on our YouTube channel .
