Dimensions summary
You pay hourly for the EC2 instances that scan your files, and pricing scales by instance type. The many options here are just the supported instance families and sizes, from small t3 and t3a types up to large compute-optimized (c-series) and general-purpose (m-series) instances. You choose the instance type that fits your throughput needs; larger instances cost more per hour. Billing runs only while instances are running, so uninstalling the software stops the charges. AWS infrastructure charges (EBS, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch) and Cloudflare R2 API usage are billed separately by those providers.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hour meters one running EC2 instance that scans your files. By default, auto-scaling launches and caps at one m6i.large instance. You can raise the maximum instance count to scan more files at once. Each running instance accrues its own hourly software charge.
You pay only while EC2 instances run. Auto-scaling keeps at least one instance running by default, so that instance accrues charges even during idle periods. Once you uninstall the software and terminate the instances, the hourly software charges stop.
You also pay standard AWS charges for EBS, SNS, SQS, and CloudWatch, billed by AWS separately. Cloudflare bills its own charges for workers, queues, and R2 API calls such as GetObject and DeleteObject. These provider charges combine with the hourly software fee but appear through those providers.
