You pay by the hour for a pre-configured Amazon Linux 2 machine image, billed only while your instance runs. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type, so your hourly rate depends on the instance you choose. Options span many families, including general-purpose (t2, t3, m5), compute-optimized (c5), memory-optimized (r5, x1e), storage-optimized (i3, d3), and accelerated (g4dn, p3, inf1) types. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly software rates. You select the size matching your workload, and Amazon EC2 infrastructure charges apply separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I launch one of these hourly instance types?
You get a pre-configured Amazon Linux 2 machine image running on the Amazon EC2 instance type you select. Each dimension maps to one specific instance size. The hourly rate reflects the software on that image. Vendor support is included with the listing.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters only while your instance runs. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges. However, separate AWS infrastructure fees, such as storage for the instance volume, may still apply while it sits stopped. Restarting resumes the hourly software metering.
How does my bill change if I switch to a bigger instance size?
Your hourly software rate is tied to the specific instance type you run. Moving to a larger size within a family, or to a family with more resources, raises the hourly rate. You pay the rate for whichever instance is running. Separate AWS infrastructure charges also scale with size.
