If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run this software on. Each dimension maps to one AWS instance type, so pricing scales with the compute you select. Smaller shared instances like t2, t3, and t3a cover light workloads. General-purpose m-series, compute-optimized c-series, and memory-optimized r-series and x-series step up in CPU and memory. GPU, high-memory metal, and storage-focused families serve heavier needs. The software itself stays the same across all sizes; only the hourly rate changes with the instance you choose. You add AWS infrastructure charges separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for this software?
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type running for one hour. The rate covers the software license on that instance size. You are billed per hour the instance runs, with CPU and memory scaling by the instance family you pick.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software fee. You may still pay AWS for attached storage on a stopped instance. Only running hours meter the software license.
What tools come installed regardless of the instance size I choose?
Every instance runs the same stack on Windows Server 2022: Apache web server, MariaDB, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin, Perl, Tomcat, an FTP server, and OpenSSL. The software set does not change with size. Only the hourly rate changes based on the instance type you select.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

What do you like best about the product?
I have used XAMPP primarily for local web development. It provides an ideal environment in our local system to create and test software. The combination mentioned above is really all we need to quickly develop applications - Apache web server to host, MySQL and PhpMyadmin to manage the database
What do you dislike about the product?
The main disadvantage of this setup is its primarily designed for Windows which creates inefficiencies when using with Linux and Mac. I use Mac to develop complex applications and I have observed its performance to be subpar as compared to Windows. One more issue I faced while using this is the amount of manual updates we need to do to keep the software up to date.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
XAMPP helped me to quickly develop prototype of my software development project and showcase it to my superiors. The free and open source software platform helps in minimizing costs related to setup an actual environement for web development.
