NICE DCV is a high performance remote streaming protocol that enables user to securely access remote desktop or application sessions, including 3D graphics applications hosted on servers with high-performance GPUs.
NICE DCV offers end users a wide range of client devices, including native clients for Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems. Native clients support up to 4 monitors at 4K resolution each and the Windows client also supports USB redirection for 3D mice and USB storage devices. In addition, NICE DCV helps customers with remote Linux desktops to reduce session costs by supporting multiple simultaneous full-performant 3D Linux sessions from one high performance GPU server.

What exactly do I get for each hourly instance charge?
Each hourly rate covers an Amazon Linux 2 desktop running NICE DCV on one EC2 GPU instance. The instance type sets the GPU, CPU, and memory you receive. On a T4-based instance with 16GB, you can typically run 10-12 concurrent 3D Linux desktops sharing that GPU.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges follow running instance-hours. When you stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops. You can switch instance types or stop at any time, since billing tracks actual usage hours. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees, which are separate from this software charge.
Does running many DCV desktops on one instance raise my hourly charge?
No. You pay per instance-hour for the chosen instance type, not per desktop or per user. DCV shares one GPU across many concurrent 3D desktops. Adding more sessions on the same running instance does not change the hourly rate.

Connecting via QUIC/UDP for highly interactive media remote desktop experience and in case of difficult network conditions is the default. With DCV 2021 and later QUIC/UDP will be used automatically. In the DCV client connection settings you can chose to use TCP as well.
