Overview
NICE DCV is a high-end remote desktop protocol that enables user to securely access remote desktop or application sessions, including 3D graphics applications hosted on servers with high-performance GPUs.
NICE DCV offers end users a wide range of client devices, including native clients for Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems. Native clients support up to 4 monitors at 4K resolution each and the Windows client also supports USB redirection for 3D mice and USB storage devices. In addition, NICE DCV helps customers with remote Linux desktops to reduce session costs significantly by supporting multiple simultaneous full-performant 3D Linux sessions from one high performance GPU server.
NICE DCV CENTOS STREAM 9 Desktop supports high end remote 3D access for e.g. M&E artists, HPC pre-/post-processing applications. Includes support for remote USB devices and file transfer. NVIDIA drivers pre-installed for optimal remote 3D experience.
On AWS, NICE DCV provides the streaming protocol e.g. used by Workspaces, Amazon Appstream 2.0, AWS RoboMaker and Nimble Studio.
This AMI supports g3, g4dn and g5 instances with latest nVidia GRID drivers.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on GPU-based EC2 instances. Each dimension maps to one instance type across three families: G3, G4dn, and G5. Pricing scales with the size and power of the instance you pick. Within each family, larger instances offer more CPU cores, GPU capacity, and memory, so hourly rates rise with instance size. You choose the instance that fits your 3D graphics workload, then pay only for the hours you run it. No upfront commitment or fixed term applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension bills one running EC2 instance per hour. The software licence lets you create multiple 3D desktop sessions on that instance. On a T4 GPU with 16 GB, you can typically run 10-12 concurrent Linux 3D desktops, if cores and memory allow.
Software charges accrue per running instance-hour. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops too. AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, but the software licence meters only the hours the instance runs.
Each dimension is one running EC2 instance metered by the hour, with no upfront commitment or fixed term. Usage instructions
- Make sure the instance security groups allow inbound traffic to TCP and UDP port 8443 and TCP port 22.
- Configure the instance to have the role to access the license file as per https://docs.aws.amazon.com/dcv/latest/adminguide/setting-up-license.html
- Connect to your remote machine with ssh -i <your-pem-key> ec2-user@<public-dns>
- Set the password for the user "ec2-user" with 'sudo passwd ec2-user'. This is the password you will use to log in to DCV.
- Create a DCV virtual session using the command 'dcv create-session --storage-root %home% session1' including file transfer support, 'session1' is the session name (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/dcv/latest/adminguide/managing-sessions.html )
- Connect to your remote machine with the NICE DCV native client or web client at https://<public_dns>:8443
Connecting via QUIC/UDP for highly interactive media remote desktop experience and in case of difficult network conditions is the default. In the DCV client connection settings you can chose to use TCP as well.
