Access Server for AWS delivers the best-of-breed VPN solution for secure remote access, site-to-site VPN and secure SaaS access for organizations of all sizes. Our award-winning open-source protocol is the industry standard for accessing private information securely, ensuring safe access to internal data and delivering zero-trust network access.

Access Server for AWS is a self-hosted VPN software that provides rapid deployment for secure remote access with a built-in web-based user interface for ease of use. Access Server provides an extra layer of security, with end-to-end encryption and granular access control to limit the risk of exposed data for remote users, site-to-site connectivity, or securing SaaS access and IoT devices. Certificate PKI management provides simplified installation and configuration. Additional features include balancing traffic across a cluster of Access Servers with DNS round robin and tunneling only your private traffic, optimizing your network bandwidth and making your environment more secure.

Access Server for AWS technical support and onboarding is available 24/7. Schedule a demo at https://hs.openvpn.net/request-demo .

OpenVPN client software accommodates Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and ChromeOS environments. Includes a built-in local authentication system and support for authentication with Active Directory, PAM, LDAP, RADIUS, SAML, and even a custom Python3 authentication module is possible.

Our subscription model is based on the number of concurrent connected devices. The tiered instance type comes in various sizes and is locked to the specific size. The cost for the software subscription for the chosen tier is charged directly through Amazon. This means these instances get a subscription automatically at launch and are suitable for automated launch and autoscaling scenarios.

Seamless Cross-Platform VPN with Easy SSO Integration and Strong Access Controls

    Reviewed on Oct 24, 2025
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
We deployed an OpenVPN on an Ubuntu VM. The installation is straightforward, and no need to mess with the complex firewall rules. We use Microsoft Azure Entra ID, so integrating SAML for single sign-on was a big win. Our team was a mix of Windows laptops and Mac OS machines. The OpenVPN client works seamlessly across all platforms. I was able to assign specific access rules to different users, which helped us maintain regulatory compliance and reduce unnecessary exposure.
What do you dislike about the product?
While logs are available, I wish there were more built-in analytics, like bandwidth usage per user and connection history dashboards. Setting up split tunneling and custom routes is not an easy task. It's scalable, but we need to work plan for adding more than 50 users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have contractors working from different locations, we created a user profile for him and gave him access to Development environment, and sent him the connection link. Within 10 mins, they are securely connected and working without any issues.

What do you like best about the product?
The OpenVPN support team provided a very quick response, and I truly appreciate their efforts. They are highly supportive. Keep up the great work, and please continue maintaining this excellent level of support quality.
What do you dislike about the product?
OpenVPN should maintain their older APK files, as we require an APK version that is compatible with Android 8
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
to connect to the internal network, it works fine.

Great VPN solution to grant access to business network

    Reviewed on Aug 19, 2025
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that OpenVPN Access Server supports MFA and SAML for client login. We had used the built in MFA previously using Google Authenticator, and now client login via SAML and we MFA on the SSO side.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have used OpenVPN for years now and like it quite a bit. Managing a cluster of VPN servers could use some iteration and improvements but it pretty solid all things considered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We went with OpenVPN Access Server because we didn't want to use a VPN solution that was directly tied to our campus firewall. It was a relatively cheap VPN solution to implement in our environment. We primarily use it for remote access to on-premises servers. The number of on-premises servers has been decreasing over the years as more things went cloud, but we still needed a reasonably priced and secure solution for granting access to those servers.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that OpenVPN Access Server provides secure and reliable remote connectivity with strong encryption. It’s easy to set up, works across multiple platforms, and offers flexible configuration options for teams of any size.

I dislike that the initial setup and configuration can be a bit complex for beginners, and managing advanced features sometimes requires a deeper understanding of networking concepts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
OpenVPN Access Server solves the problem of secure remote access to internal networks and resources. It allows me to safely connect from anywhere, protect data with strong encryption, and maintain consistent access for teams, which improves productivity and ensures data privacy.
