This collection includes conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) profiles obtained at the National Reference Stations (NRS) as part of the water sampling program. The instruments used also measure dissolved oxygen, fluorescence, and turbidity. The collection also includes practical salinity, water density and artificial chlorophyll concentration, as computed from the measured properties. The data are processed in delayed mode, with automated quality control applied. The National Reference Station network is designed to provide baseline information, at timescales relevant to human response, that is required to understand how large-scale, long-term change and variability in the global ocean are affecting the ecosystems of Australia's coastal seas. The stations are operated by the Australian National Moorings Network (ANMN), a facility of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS).

The Australian National Mooring Network (ANMN) Facility is a series of national reference stations and regional moorings designed to monitor particular oceanographic phenomena in Australian coastal ocean waters. This collection contains time-series observations of temperature and salinity from moorings deployed by the ANMN. The primary parameters are temperature, pressure (when available) and depth of the instrument. A subset of this collection also includes conductivity and salinity. The observations were made using a range of temperature loggers, conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) instruments, and temperature sensors on acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs). We are also producing a gridded product of temperature time-series profiles based on these data. These will be available in a separate collection.
Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) have moorings across both it's National Mooring Network and Deep Water Moorings facilities. The National Mooring Network facility comprises a series of national reference stations and regional moorings designed to monitor particular oceanographic phenomena in Australian coastal ocean waters. The Deep Water Moorings facility (formerly known as the Australian Bluewater Observing System) provides the coordination of national efforts in the sustained observation of open ocean properties with particular emphasis on observations important to climate and carbon cycle studies, with selected moorings from its Deep Water Arrays sub-facility providing data to this collection.
