Overview
Axity’s cloud migration assessment is a systematic evaluation of an organization's existing IT infrastructure, applications, and data to determine the feasibility, benefits, risks, and requirements associated with migrating to a cloud computing environment. The assessment helps organizations make informed decisions and develop a comprehensive migration strategy.
How it works
During a cloud migration assessment, several key areas are typically evaluated:
- Infrastructure Assessment: The existing on-premises infrastructure is analyzed to identify the hardware, networking components, and software systems in place. This includes servers, storage devices, networking equipment, and virtualization technologies. The assessment examines the compatibility and readiness of the infrastructure for migration to the cloud.
- Application Portfolio Analysis: All applications used by the organization are reviewed to determine their suitability for migration to the cloud. This includes assessing their dependencies, integration requirements, resource usage patterns, and any potential challenges associated with their migration. Applications are categorized based on their complexity, criticality, and the benefits they can derive from cloud migration.
- Data Assessment: The assessment evaluates the organization's data assets, including databases, file systems, and data storage mechanisms. It identifies the volume, structure, and sensitivity of the data, as well as any compliance or regulatory considerations. The assessment determines the best approach for data migration and ensures the integrity and security of the data during and after the migration.
- Performance and Scalability Analysis: The performance requirements of the existing infrastructure and applications are evaluated to understand their current and future scalability needs. This assessment helps determine if the cloud platform can meet the organization's performance demands and if any performance optimization is required before migration.
- Security and Compliance Review: The existing security measures and compliance requirements are assessed to identify potential risks and ensure that the cloud environment can meet the organization's security standards and compliance obligations. This includes evaluating encryption methods, access controls, disaster recovery plans, and data protection mechanisms.
- Cost Analysis: The assessment examines the organization's current IT costs and compares them with the expected costs of operating in the cloud. It considers factors such as infrastructure provisioning, licensing, maintenance, and ongoing operational expenses. This analysis helps estimate the potential cost savings or cost increases associated with migrating to the cloud.
