You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run this CircleCI software on. The 21 dimensions map to specific instance types across several families. General-purpose options include the t2, t3, and m3, m4, m5 sizes. The r3, r4, and r5 sizes are memory-focused. The c3, c4, and c5 sizes are compute-focused. Within each family, larger sizes carry a higher hourly rate. You pick the instance that fits your workload, then pay only for the hours you use. This charge covers the software plus maintenance support.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing represent for these instance dimensions?
One hour equals one running instance-hour of the EC2 size you choose. You pay the software rate for each hour the instance runs. Each instance you launch bills separately. Running two instances of the same size doubles the hourly software charge for that period.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage or other AWS resources may still bill separately while the instance is stopped. You resume software charges when you start the instance again.
What is included in the software charge, and what is not?
The hourly charge covers the CircleCI software plus maintenance support from the vendor. It does not cover integration support for products that are not a native part of the service. If you use third-party products alongside it, you are responsible for their terms.
