You pay by the hour for a hardened Ubuntu 26.04 image, billed per running instance. Each dimension maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU or accelerator families, in sizes from nano and micro up through metal instances. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute, memory, or storage. You choose the instance type that fits your workload and pay only for the hours it runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One hour covers the software license for one running EC2 instance of the type you selected. Each dimension maps to a single instance type. If you run several instances, each accrues its own hourly charge. Charges track wall-clock running time, rounded per AWS metering rules.
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing this software fee. Underlying AWS storage or other resource costs may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the image license meters running hours only.
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever instance type you launch. Switching to an instance with more compute, memory, or storage moves you to that dimension's rate. The change is not automatic; you select a different instance type when you launch. You pay only for hours each type runs.

Manually set the security group to open port 22 (SSH), connect to the public IPv4 address of the instance through SSH, and log in as the "ubuntu" user using the key specified at startup.
