This Amazon Machine Image (AMI) provides a pre-installed, ready-to-run Mumble 1.5 Server (Murmur) environment on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.

You pay by the hour for this preconfigured Mumble 1.5 image, running on a hardened Ubuntu 26.04 build. Pricing is usage-based, so you are charged only for the hours each instance runs. The many dimensions here are not feature tiers. Each one maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type, from small shared instances to large multi-core and bare-metal options. The hourly software rate changes with the instance type you select, reflecting its compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity. You scale cost by choosing a larger or smaller instance and by how long you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension matches a single Amazon EC2 instance type. You are billed the software rate for every hour that one instance of that type runs. Running two instances of the same type doubles the hourly software charge. The instance type you pick sets compute, memory, storage, and accelerator capacity.
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance accrues no software charge. Underlying AWS storage for an attached volume may still bill separately while the instance is stopped. To end software charges completely, stop or terminate the running instance.
Cost changes with two factors. First, the instance type you select: smaller shared types carry lower hourly software rates than large multi-core or bare-metal types. Second, how many hours each instance runs. Switching to a different instance type changes the rate from the moment the new instance starts.

You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

SSH to the instance and login as 'ubuntu' using the key specified at launch.
Mumble Server is pre-installed under the system environment. IMPORTANT NOTICE: The default 'SuperUser' password is intentionally left blank (empty) for initial security reasons. You must configure your own secure password before connecting your client.
Follow these steps to configure your administrator password, customize settings, and verify the service status:
Switch to root user: sudo su -
Run the configuration wizard to set your own 'SuperUser' password: sudo dpkg-reconfigure mumble-server In the interactive prompt screen, use the 'Tab' key to switch options and press 'Enter' to confirm:
Autostart mumble-server on boot? -> Select 'Yes'
Allow mumble-server to use higher priority? -> Select 'Yes'
Password for 'SuperUser' -> Input and confirm your new administrative password (this is critical for managing rooms, muting, or kicking users via the Mumble client).
Modify advanced configuration file (Optional): If you need to change the welcome text or maximum users, edit the core configuration file: sudo nano /etc/mumble-server.ini (Use Ctrl+W to search for keys within the file):
port=64738 (Default server port)
welcometext="Welcome to my voice server!" (Custom greeting text)
users=100 (Maximum simultaneous connections) Press Ctrl+O then Enter to save, and Ctrl+X to exit the editor.
Restart and check service status: sudo systemctl restart mumble-server sudo systemctl status mumble-server If you see a green "active (running)" state, your server is successfully running.
