Typically, companies involved in managing large portfolios of generation plants have to collect measures to calculate production KPIs and to enable asset monitoring, with the goal of improving energy production and asset management.

These tasks require dealing with the great variety of technologies used to realize the plants (e.g., different SCADA, devices, protocols, ...) and being able to manage the huge quantities of data produce by the plants, usually conveyed using different data formats. Furthermore, plants differ in their topology and in the strategy used to maximize the value of the produced energy, for example using batteries and dynamic pricing, or participating into demand-response markets.

To face all these challenges without excessively increase CAPEX and OPEX of managed plants, Sense Reply proposes an innovative approach based on the fast adoption of RIPA (Reply IoT Platform Accelerator), based on AWS Serverless services, this allows to create a PaaS platform that is billed based on the traffic and the usage instead on the time the infrastructure is running. Examples of used services are: IoT Core, Lambda, S3, Cloudwatch, MongoDB, MSK, EKS, Fargate, and API Gateway.

RIPA is actionable as an MVP Business Application that enables collecting real-time and historical data from renewable plants either from SCADA or installed devices. Data are stored using a unified format in dedicated data-lake, optimized to use hot, warm and cold partitions based on the specific needs. Collected data can be used to calculate KPI and a powerful framework enables the user to autonomously deploy, train, test, and use proprietary ML/AI algorithms (e.g., forecasting and predictive maintenance). Asset management functionalities allows managing master data and control field devices in case of need.
