It provides the processing and memory for the console that identifies, investigates, and prioritizes vulnerabilities. You size capacity by choosing how many hours you run it and how many instances you launch.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped c4.large stops hourly software billing. Note that stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software licence meters running time only.
Billing is tied to instance-hours, not asset counts. To handle more scanning load, you run the c4.large longer or launch additional instances. The software supports unlimited scanners, active and passive monitoring, and agent scanning to expand coverage across your network.
