Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Pricing is billed per EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you select. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size and family, from small general-purpose types to large memory-optimized and bare-metal options. Larger instances with more compute or memory carry higher hourly rates. Your total cost scales with how many instances you run and for how long. The software fee applies alongside your standard AWS compute charges. This usage-based model suits variable or on-demand SAP workloads.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and how is a running instance counted?
Each unit is one EC2 instance of the selected type, billed per hour it runs. You pay separately for every instance you launch. The rate reflects that instance's compute and memory size. Bare-metal types are billed as a single instance, not per underlying core.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped, for example an idle SAP DR node?
The hourly software fee applies only while an instance runs. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges. You may still owe standard AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software licence meters running hours only.
What is included with this Linux subscription beyond the operating system itself?
The hourly fee includes high availability support and update services for SAP workloads. You get continuous security patches, Linux kernel live patching, and access to management tooling. These features come with every instance type. Your underlying AWS compute charges are billed separately.

Review from a verified AWS customer
What is our primary use case?
I use Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in my company as a hosting platform for database servers, application servers, and for building high-performance servers with Red Hat clustering and high availability server creation.
How has it helped my organization?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) helps me save time in terms of design, deployment, and troubleshooting by reducing turnaround time. I can deliver in less than 24 hours, typically within two to three working days for complete installation, configuration, management, and support, which varies over different life cycles.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) helps solve pain points by providing enterprise customers with a high availability and secure operating system environment. Its reliable support means I can run various applications such as Oracle databases or SAP without needing to seek alternative solutions, which saves time and ensures quick deployment.
What is most valuable?
I chose Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for its security requirements because it is built on top of the CentOS kernel, and with Red Hat Satellite, I can identify any vulnerability and perform quick patching. Red Hat support is also strong in terms of escalation and covering any security aspect with OpenSCAP or security policies.
I value Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) because with Red Hat 10 coming up, many different features are available, including hosting containers and running Red Hat OpenStack on the Red Hat side, which are generally used on RHEL as the compute OS for hosting virtual machines.
For the provisioning part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), it depends on the scale I am implementing. If I am provisioning multiple scales, such as thousands of servers, then there is a different provisioning method, and sometimes I do standalone installation based on the scenario. The provisioning part also comes with strong features, such as Red Hat's minimized ISO, which helps me quickly build servers.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) makes it easier for me to manage my hybrid cloud environment with Red Hat OpenShift, allowing me to use a single RHEL in my cloud environment and on-premises. It provides great flexibility with the same licensing and allows me to customize the image based on my requirements, especially when running on AWS.
I find that virtualization, particularly with Red Hat OpenShift virtualization, provides the same kind of experience as VMware, and it is a strong feature that came after decommissioning Red Hat Virtualization.
I have worked with the Image Builder feature, which allows customization in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
The Image Builder feature is helpful for system roles as it allows for customization based on the deployment environment, such as adhering to security frameworks like HIPAA, and it helps minimize the footprint of the OS binaries for RHEL VMs.
What needs improvement?
I do not see any significant disadvantages with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), but for improvement, I think they could offer a cost optimization calculator and license portability, especially for perpetual licenses when upgrading to newer versions.
Red Hat's ecosystem aligns well with the current market standards and they continually add new features and provide support for various vendors, so I cannot recall any specific requests for add-ons at this time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) more than 12 years ago.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I see no limitations on scalability with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
How are customer service and support?
I rate support from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as nine out of ten.
I find the knowledge base Red Hat offers to be very strong, providing comprehensive, point-to-point mapping for issues, and it is easy to search for specific errors before raising support tickets through access.redhat.com.
How was the initial setup?
I find the deployment part very straightforward and user-friendly with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
In terms of upgrades and migrations on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), I find the process very straightforward with minimum downtime for upgrades and patching, as Red Hat provides all binaries and changelogs to inform me about feature upgrades or library changes, though migration depends on the architecture and tool used.
What was our ROI?
In terms of value for money with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), I see a strong return on investment because Red Hat licenses based on socket basis rather than core basis, making it a simpler and more efficient cost model compared to other vendors.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I consider the pricing and licensing for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to be moderate, not too high or low, but it does depend on how partners engage with Red Hat.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
When I compare Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to other Linux distributions such as Ubuntu or Oracle, I notice that Red Hat has a very strong ecosystem regarding environments and operators. While Ubuntu follows a different distribution stream, in terms of performance, scalability, and security features, Red Hat is truly a pioneer in Linux.
What other advice do I have?
I work with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as both a customer and a partner, initially as a customer, then as a partner.
I have Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in a hybrid environment.
I work with all three cloud providers: AWS, Azure, and GCP.
I would give Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) a perfect 10 out of 10.
I assess both the technical and commercial aspects and find them well-balanced, leading to my score of 10 out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Reliable support has reduced downtime and currently provides stronger security for critical clusters
Reviewed on Oct 27, 2026
Review provided by PeerSpot
What is our primary use case?
I mainly work on-premises with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). I focus my work on disconnected clusters, following that deployment model.
How has it helped my organization?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) helps mitigate downtime and lower risk. When we raise a support case, there is a priority-wise system. If there is any production issue, we can designate it as severity one, and Red Hat provides on-call support at that time. Red Hat is very good for support.
What is most valuable?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) provides excellent back-end support, which is one of the main features. The commands and overall functionality are more feasible compared to other Linux systems.
I assess the knowledge base offered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as perfect. Red Hat is increasing in the market every day, and based on that, I find Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) more preferable.
The most important security feature in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is the constant support they provide. If any issue arises, we can recover from it through their back-end support.
I have tried Red Hat Insights, which now integrates with AI. However, the cluster I work on is mainly disconnected, so I use the AI feature less. For a personal knowledge base, we use the Insights component. Red Hat provides an excellent knowledge base with officially good documentation, which makes it more feasible to follow. I have previously worked on SUSE Linux as well, and I find Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) superior in comparison.
Regarding Image Builder, I work with it at a cluster level, configuring aspects such as ports and other settings.
I find it helpful and most preferable. I am committing to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) going forward. Through my work experience, I have found it more feasible career-wise and learning-wise, with excellent opportunities to develop and explore more expertise. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) has a very good scope.
What needs improvement?
At the connectivity level, there are some challenges I have faced. Currently, I am troubleshooting a cluster where etcd quorum issues have become loose. When etcd quorum loses stability, I need the kube-admin password and related information. At that time, I do not find feasible solutions for recovering that main resource. In such situations, I need to connect with Red Hat support. As an individual contributor, it is not ideal, as I need a more specialized person to resolve these doubts and issues.
Regarding agentic AI, I want more exploration into how AI integrates with these systems and how agentic AI tools such as Claude and other emerging systems will develop. For feasibility purposes, Red Hat should integrate these technologies with security considerations to ensure that agentic AI systems do not compromise security.
I want to see improvements in how agents and LLM models are building and evolving. There should be integration to ensure that LLM models do not replace our roles.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for six years.
How are customer service and support?
I rate their technical support at eight out of ten, between eight to nine.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. They could directly connect if they wanted any connection with the team.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Regarding the pricing of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), we work with the client and received feedback that it is more reasonable. Currently, we are working with Red Hat Virtualization and comparing it with VMware. Many organizations are migrating from VMware to Red Hat Virtualization.
This is why I consider Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) more preferable, as it is also less costly. Red Hat is gaining more market power everywhere.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) eight to nine overall.

Reliable server platform has supported hybrid services and reduced downtime for critical workloads
Reviewed on Oct 27, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer
What is our primary use case?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is best for servers usage. I have multiple services running on top of RHEL, both on the cloud and on-premise environments. It is my main usage for it.
How has it helped my organization?
The stability of the product helps me mitigate downtime and lower risk. We do not encounter any major downtime on our services due to RHEL.
What is most valuable?
The knowledge base offered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is quite good. I obtained most of my knowledge from Red Hat documentations, architects, and consultants.
I have tried Red Hat Insights. I would rate it from one to ten, about an eight or nine in terms of how helpful it was.
I mostly use Insights, as it provides me with every piece of information I would need regarding Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). For any issue that I had, I searched for it and eventually found the Red Hat Insights webpage where I retrieved my relevant data.
I had some experience with Image Builder, but it is not something I can remember well.
What needs improvement?
I mostly used versions seven and eight of RHEL, so I do not have much experience with the recent versions. However, I am confident they handled most of the bugs I encountered on the less recent versions. This is my only complaint about RHEL—some bugs I encountered before, but I do not think they exist now on the newer versions.
The documentation is perfect for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and the ease of use is good as well.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for about seven to eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I find Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) overall stable.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the technical support from one to ten as an eight.
Every time I tried to reach the support, I received an immediate response. It was quick and good support, so there is no room for improvement when it comes to response time or first-level support quality.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before RHEL, I worked with something similar, specifically Ubuntu by Canonical.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is more mature in my opinion, particularly regarding stability compared to Ubuntu.
How was the initial setup?
I took part in the deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in my company.
It was straightforward.
What was our ROI?
I have seen return on investment.
It took me approximately a couple of months to realize ROI.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I find the pricing reasonable and competitive.
What other advice do I have?
For my usage, running services and running Kubernetes, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is the best option on the market so far.
I would rate Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) an eight from one to ten overall.
I think Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is quite popular among corporations here in my region.
I would recommend Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for big companies and less recommend it for small companies since small companies would probably use Ubuntu. This is because of the pricing.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Hybrid platforms have optimized resource use and automated repetitive infrastructure tasks
Reviewed on Oct 23, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer
What is our primary use case?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is used primarily from a server perspective, running numerous applications on top of the Enterprise Linux server. This includes in-house applications, client-based applications, and integrations with Active Directory, LDAP, and databases that sit outside but are integrated with the Enterprise Linux servers. Over 8000 Linux machines are running across VMware, physical servers, and AWS instances.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operates in a complete hybrid environment with machines running on physical servers, VMware, and Azure instances. Red Hat OpenShift serves as the private cloud product and runs on production and QA environments with a 32-node cluster and a 16-node cluster containing 16 worker nodes running Red Hat CoreOS, which is a customized operating system provided by Red Hat.
My experience is primarily on the Red Hat side, though I also work with multiple integrations including Active Directory, LDAP, Grafana, Dynatrace, and Prometheus. I use DataDog and Dynatrace for log monitoring. I currently work with several cloud platforms including GCP, AWS, Azure, and IBM, running Enterprise Linux and OpenShift on IBM cloud, Azure, and AWS where they offer managed services such as Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA) and Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO).
How has it helped my organization?
Compared to other technologies and products, I have not identified any cons for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), but I see many advantages. By using Red Hat OpenShift, resource consumption has been reduced significantly compared to what was consumed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers. Previously, a few applications ran on one RHEL server, but after moving to OpenShift, those applications were containerized and now run as containers on the OpenShift environment, reducing resource consumption by more than 80%.
Regarding time-saving aspects, using the Ansible configuration management automation tool saves considerable time. It allows me to automate multiple repetitive tasks instead of deploying everything manually, which can be quite repetitive.
To mitigate downtime and lower risks, changes are made during off-business hours to minimize business impact, often working during weekends or outside business hours. New upgrades are tested first in development and QA environments before being applied to production after receiving feedback.
What is most valuable?
Over more than a decade, I have found many improvements in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), especially in the last 10 years. Red Hat enterprise services continually introduce new features such as Broadcom host cover for VMware. Red Hat recently introduced OpenShift migration, allowing existing servers to be migrated from VMware or elsewhere directly to the Red Hat platform or OpenShift through virtualization, which is a unique technology that Red Hat has provided to the industry.
From a security standpoint, the most important security features in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) are the built-in security features already in place. Red Hat has recently introduced the Lightweight feature, which is in high demand in the market because it allows for customizable security options.
I have tried both Leapp and Red Hat Insights depending on client demand. Sometimes I prefer one, but if the client is not ready for that option, I must proceed with what they prefer.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Image Builder is my primary tool for this work. Most clients want to customize their images rather than use standard ones provided with the ISO. When clients prefer certain elements to remain while requesting the removal of others, the Image Builder is used to meet their specifications.
What needs improvement?
One improvement I would like to see in technical support and customer service is that sometimes the technical team asks random questions. When a priority ticket has been raised and immediate responses are needed, they keep asking for repeated information, which feels like a strategy to buy time and can be quite frustrating.
Aside from support improvements, I currently do not have anything else in mind that I would like to see enhanced in Red Hat. One crucial missing feature regarding security is something I would like to see enhanced. Red Hat has great potential in this area, and they recently presented the Lightwell tool, which I am currently exploring and look forward to sharing my experience with.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for 18 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability and reliability, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is scalable. Specifically, in the OpenShift area where I have worked for the last ten years, the environment can be scaled up and down at any time.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the knowledge base offered by Red Hat at 9 out of 10. The Red Hat knowledge base contains all the information needed for newcomers looking to explore their career in Red Hat. All documentation is available, and if you are good at reading or connecting the dots, you can utilize it without help from third parties.
My use of Red Hat in a hybrid environment is supported by the premium model, which provides all kinds of support. Most of my clients run Enterprise Linux servers in production environments, so the premium support option is typically used.
Red Hat helps solve many specific pain points, especially when stuck on a production issue and unable to find the root cause. In those moments, reaching out to Red Hat with a priority one support case results in immediate response and assistance.
I would rate the technical support team a 7 out of 10.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup process with Red Hat is not overly complex unless customized applications are involved, which Red Hat does not support directly. This is the only challenge encountered, as their support is limited to their own products rather than customized ones.
What was our ROI?
In terms of cost-effectiveness, this completely depends on what is being used and what the business needs are. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) does bring a return on investment, but it varies based on those factors.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It depends on the client and the relationship they have with Red Hat. Sometimes, Red Hat offers significant discounts to clients running extensive environments with hundreds of Enterprise Linux servers and services such as Ansible and OpenShift.
Most of the time, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is procured directly from Red Hat rather than from other marketplaces.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
When comparing the business value of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) against other Linux distributions I have used, RHEL is prioritized for running business applications. Although some customers choose to use SUSE or Fedora, for production applications, Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the preferred choice.
What other advice do I have?
I currently represent a Center of Excellence (COE) for Red Hat OpenShift, maintaining a business relationship with Red Hat.
For others looking to implement Red Hat technologies, my recommendation is significant. Since the Broadcom takeover, companies seem to be moving away from VMware virtualization to Red Hat OpenShift or Red Hat Virtualization, with many preferring OpenShift for migrating existing workloads to containerized formats.
