As CentOS 7 reaches EOL, enterprises are seeking to move to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

Advent One will perform an assessment on a subset of instances, document a recommended migration method and migration plan for the CentOS Instances to transitoin to RHEL. Advent One will also determine the RHEL subscriptions required.

In addition to the assessment, Advent One will provide services to assist with the conversion to RHEL, which may involve instance conversion or instance replacement.

Instance Conversion:

For long running instances, the simplest method for migration is using the Red Hat Supported Convert2RHEL tool. Advent One will use the tool to upgrade a subset of non-production instances, and provide detailed conversion documentation.

Advent One can also use the Convert2RHEL tool to convert any instances running distributions supported by the tool, e.g. Alma Linux, Rocky Linux, Oracle Linux, CentOS 8 etc. as per https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/html-single/converting_from_an_rpm-based_linux_distribution_to_rhel/index#con_supported-conversion-paths_converting-from-a-linux-distribution-to-rhel

Once converted, Advent One or the customer can perform the remaining upgrades during scheduled change windows.

Instance Replacement:

For instances that are short running and replaceable (i.e. ones in Auto Scaling Groups) Advent One will assess how AMIs are currently managed, the Auto Scaling Group (ASG) configuration and recommend the best path forward. For example this may be whitelisting your AWS Account(s) for Red Hat gold AMI images, and creating custom CIS hardened AMIs using OpenSCAP and installing any pre-requisite software in the AMI. Advent One automate the AMI creation process using Red Hat Ansible Automation. Configuration at the time of instance launch is performed using cloud-init which Advent One will assess and assist in reconfiguration where required of instance launch configuration.

Post Migration:

Once RHEL is deployed in your AWS environment, Advent One provide services to uplift the ongoing operations of the RHEL environment, such as the use of Red Hat Insights and Red Hat Satellite in the AWS cloud to streamline securing and managing RHEL in the AWS cloud.
