Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming. Mumble is free software, meaning it is available at no cost and under a very liberal license. The client is called "Mumble". The Server is known as "Mumble Server" or "Murmur". Mumble's server component, Murmur, allows anyone to run a server of their own for public or private use, free of charge. Murmur supports extensive user permission configuration using access control groups (ACLs) and can be configured programmatically via RPC. A single Murmur daemon can also run multiple Murmur servers on different TCP/UDP ports.

You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run. The software itself carries no license fee, so your charge tracks the compute class you select. Options span general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r), and storage-optimized (i) families across several generations. Within each family, you choose a size from nano up through 2xlarge. Hourly rates rise as you move to more capable instances with more CPU, memory, or storage. Pick the smallest size that meets your voice chat load, then scale up or down as needed. All sizes run the same preconfigured server.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the size you pick, billed per hour. The hourly rate reflects that instance's CPU, memory, and storage class. All sizes run the same preconfigured voice chat server; larger sizes support more concurrent users and higher load.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software fee. Underlying AWS storage and any attached static IP may still bill separately through AWS. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.
No separate software license fee applies. Your charge tracks only the EC2 instance size you select, billed hourly. Subscriptions also bundle cloud backup, restore, and migration, plus chat and email support, which require a free Hub account registration to access.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
