Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming. Mumble is free software, meaning it is available at no cost and under a very liberal license. The client is called "Mumble". The Server is known as "Mumble Server" or "Murmur". Mumble's server component, Murmur, allows anyone to run a server of their own for public or private use, free of charge. Murmur supports extensive user permission configuration using access control groups (ACLs) and can be configured programmatically via RPC. A single Murmur daemon can also run multiple Murmur servers on different TCP/UDP ports.

You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the size and family you pick. Options range from small burstable instances (like t3.nano and t2.micro) to larger compute, memory, and storage-focused types (like c8i-flex.2xlarge, r8i.2xlarge, and i7i.2xlarge). Larger instances hold more virtual CPU and memory, and their hourly rate scales up accordingly. You choose the instance that matches your voice chat server workload and pay only for the hours it runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the preconfigured Mumble Server software running on your chosen EC2 instance. You pay this software charge plus the standard AWS charge for the underlying instance. Storage, data transfer, and any Elastic IP you attach are billed separately by AWS.
The software fee meters running time only, so a stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. However, AWS may still bill for attached storage and other resources while the instance is stopped. Note that a stopped instance changes its IP address unless you attach an Elastic IP.
Each instance bundles free cloud backup, restore, and migration, plus chat and email support for default components. This includes one free level 1 support incident per month and unlimited forum support. Accessing these requires registering a Hub account. Additional paid support is available at discounted rates.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
