You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance. Pricing has no upfront commitment and follows your usage. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your hourly rate depends on the size and family you pick. Options span general-purpose (m and t families), compute-optimized (c family), memory-focused (r family), and storage-focused (i family) instances, in sizes from nano up to 2xlarge. Larger instances with more CPU and memory cost more per hour. You choose the instance type that fits your workload and pay only while it runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay for the LAPP stack appliance: Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, PHP, Python, and Perl. It includes SSL support, a database web admin tool, PostgreSQL client libraries, PHP development helpers, a mail transfer agent for app email, and a web-based control panel for configuration.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance's volume, but that is separate from the software licence billed here.
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. Choose t or m families for general web serving, c families for CPU-heavy PHP or Perl processing, r families for memory-intensive PostgreSQL work, and i families for storage-heavy databases. Larger sizes add CPU and memory at a higher hourly rate.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
