You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance. The many options here are not feature tiers. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance size and family, such as general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r), and storage-optimized (i) types. Your hourly rate scales with the size of the instance you pick. Smaller sizes like nano, micro, and medium cost less per hour, while large and xlarge sizes cost more. The software itself is identical across all instances; you choose based on the compute, memory, and storage your workload needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the preconfigured software running on your chosen EC2 instance. Underlying AWS compute, storage, and data transfer are billed separately by AWS. Charges accrue per running instance-hour based on the instance type you launch.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is an AWS fee, not the software rate.
You launch a new instance using the dimension that matches the size and family you need. The software is identical across all instances. Your hourly rate then follows the new instance type. Backup and migration tooling included in the appliance can help move your data.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
